Knicks Pre-Draft Stuff

So, Melo has opted out, and the Knicks are now looking to see what they can do to get into the draft.   Some folks think Melo will be back, and he's just trying to squeeze the max out of Dolan.  It would be crazy to pay him the max at this stage of his career.  Thus the Knicks should do nothing of the sort, and while I wouldn't take him back at all, they shouldn't take him back at any AAV that will preclude them from adding two better players in a year or so.

It would also be nice if they added some assistant coaches.  I don't know if we'll know before, during or after the draft if they've acquired any picks.

Can Melo sign a one year contract and return the Knicks to the status quo ante?

I don't understand the supposed telegraphing about their interest in PJ Hairston; maybe it's diversionary.

I also saw that they would have $1.8m to buy a 1st.

Other teams have more money to buy picks. We'll just have to wait and see. I don't think Melo is willing to do a one year deal, because he just could have opted in and that was all that was left of his current deal.

Probably true, but if it is in part a game of chicken to get Dolan to give him the max, I was wondering of there is a fallback position that would include a one year deal, see what Phil can put in place, and then leave next year if he doesn't like the progress made.

He basically just opted out of a 1 year deal.

I will rephrase. If as some believe "he's just trying to squeeze the max out of Dolan," and he finds out he can't, coukd he then come back under the same terms of the one year deal that he just opted out of?

Now, maybe the issue is moot because if he can't get a max from the Knicks, he would prefer to play for a ready made team.

I am just wondering if the contract he declined could be revived if Melo reconsidered.

Maybe, but I think they'd want a multiyear lockup at a rate that would allow two more stars.

I just found out he can. LeBron is also opting out.

Yeah, but I don't think the Knicks can get him.
