Knicks: Adios, Melo

So Twitter is blowing because Melo is opting out.  I don't know if he's doing it today, or tomorrow, but oh well.   Here's a guy who has now steered both of his teams into bad positions.  First, he forced a trade to the Knicks ahead of his first free agency, where the CBA would change and limit his dollars.  Now, instead of going all in, with the team that can still pay him the most,  he opts out because he wants to be wined and dined on a free agent tour.  Btw, it seems like teams have been tampering with him, but putting that aside for the moment, this guy is all ego and only occasional D.   He's been steering his career all along and what has it gotten him other than money?  Rings? No. Just dough.

Once again, the Knicks should not participate in any S&T for Melo that doesn't garner them more than fair value and speed their rebuild.

So Felton pleaded guilty to a felony w/o jail time. If this is right:

http://www.nj.com/knicks/index.ssf/2014/02/knicks_raymond_felton_facing_charges_of_felony_gun_possession.html
"The NBA’s collective bargaining agreement says a player who is convicted of or pleads guilty to a violent felony will be suspended for at least 10 games."

Silver suspends Sterling for life for a horrendous comment made in private (despite his contemptible past), but a gun-related felony is potentially, dramatically less serious?

On Melo, if this is true, they probably shouldn't do a sign and trade if it means taking any contacts back:

With a sign and trade:

Boozer’s contract [using him as an exmple] expires at the end of next season, so the Knicks would be able to open up approximately $35 million in cap space for the summer of 2015.

Without Melo:

That means the Knicks would have approximately $44 million in cap space in the summer of 2015. And a first-round draft pick. Not a bad place to be for a team with Jackson as president and the NBA's biggest media market to call home.
