Yanks Keep Kuroda and What's Next?
The Yanks and their part time ace Hiroki Kuroda came to an agreement on a new one year deal that solves at least part of their rotation puzzle for 2014. But 2014 got more puzzling today as Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson took their talents elsewhere.
That's a lot of homers, runs and RBI out the door. The Yanks have to find away to replace some of that, while shoring up second, third and perhaps right field - as well at the rotation and one more arm for the pen (though I think they should just go with the system for the pen). Sin Soo Choo may still be in play for them, as well as Carlos Beltran. Either would do well in YS and get on base.
What I'd really like to see the Yanks do, and what they haven't done well in a while is make some trades. I'm not interested in Brandon Phillips. But I would like to see them add a good young position player or two in their remaining positions of need, along with signing Tanaka if he gets posted. They can easily afford to do a lot now that the 25M per they had earmarked for Cano is available.
I'm not sure of who is available by trade, but the Yanks do have some major league assets like Gardner and Nunez, and some talent in AA they could move. So we'll see what happens. I really don't want to see bandaids and retreads. I'd like to see talent.
