Wow, Cano Signed With Seattle
Reports are circulating that Robinson Cano has agreed to a 10 year 240M deal with the Mariners. This leaves the Yanks without a second basemen or a good #3 hitter. Too bad Tex has been in the tank for most of his Yankee career. I guess they will now sign Beltran or Choo, and more pitching. Also, I believe the Mariner's pick is protected so the Yanks will just get something in the comp round between the first and second during the draft. They may have to make a trade...

Grandy to the Mets..
Another comp pick, cause their pick is also protected.
Yanks lose #18 and one of these comp picks for signing Ellsbury & McCann.
How is it their picks are protected? I thought we lose our 1 and 2 and get 2 sandwich picks? Phil do you see Choo and or Beltran? I also see a trade as you mentioned.
I see a trade occurring.
There picks are protected if they are top 10.
If you're not top 10, the new CBA stipulates you give up your top picks for any player attached to a draft pick.
Therefore, we are obligated to give up #18 and one of our comp picks from Cano/Grandy.
Billy,
I actually believe the Yankees lose their first- and second-round picks but gain two compensation picks.
I think Mike K is correct.
The new CBA specifically states that you forfeit your highest picks, even if they are compensatory picks.
The old CBA excluded compensation picks from being forfeited but that is no longer the case.
So the Yanks will lose two players but only get one sandwich pick?
