Yankee Magic!
I almost never do in season game reviews for the Yanks, Rangers or Knicks anymore... but there was Yankee Magic for the first time in awhile at Yankee Stadium today, and why not note it? On a dayy where they honored Hideki Matsui, and their legendary owner Colonel Jacob Ruppert was inducted into the Hall of Fame; the Yanks erupted for three in the first on a combination of a homer by Derek Jeter in his first game back and hits by Cano, Soriano and Ichiro.
Phil Hughes struggled, giving a run back in the second, then giving up the lead on a three run bomb in the third. The Yanks re-took the lead when Sori hit his first Yankee homer since 2013, driving in Jeter to make it 5-4. Hughes then gave up another homer and the game was tied at 5 until the Yanks rallied in the 9th and won the game on a Sori walk-off single that scored Brett Gardner. Big day for Jeter and and Sori, who had 4 hits. And it was a little bit of Yankee Magic in the Bronx. Nice.
