Rangers Sign Falk

Justin Falk. who was acquired from the Wild on the first day of the draft, agreed to a one year deal with the Rangers today.   This is sort of a tryout year for Falk who was a Risebrough pick when he was GM of the Wild.    The deal is only for 975K, so it didn't chew up too much of the remaining cap room.

The Rangers are said to still be negotiating with MZA and Stepan.  Of the two, Stepan is probably in line for a 6 year deal, and MZA is the only one left who is arb eligible, unless Mashinter is, but that's unclear.

People are asking why the Rangers would want to amnesty Richards is a second window opens.  I would have to think it would be because someone has become available by trade that they didn't think would be there.   Otherwise, why bother?  I don't  think Hank's extension will kick in till next season anyway.

UPDATE:  MZA filed for arbitration.  If he actually goes to it, the amnesty window re-opens.   This seems odd, since MZA's agent all but announced to new 3 year deal last week.

Brooks thinks MZA is going to arbitration, though once we get Step signed they should have $$$ left. Not sure what the issue is(other than his number not matching Sather's), as we know he likes him.
