Yankee Draft `13: Day 2 Preview

So rounds 3-10 will take place Friday, starting at 1pm est.  The Yanks have 8 picks.   Don't freak out if the Yanks start taking some college seniors and others to save slot allowances and load up for the big picks.   Having said that, they don't ever try to take a bad player and over the past few years even college senior money savers like Saxon Butler have had qualities to recommend them.   All of this is part of a larger plan for the Yanks to spread their draft money as well as they can in adding a big infusion of talent to the system.   Btw, the more I'm reading up on Katoh, the more he seems like one of those Ringers I mentioned the other day.   Turns out, along with his great D, he has plus speed, and hit 8 jacks this year with his Suzukian lefty swing.  So try to find out why, other than money, the Yanks might like the guys they are taking, and remember there are still high upside guys the Yanks will pick and this year, if they have the right plan, they may be able to sign more of them.

Or it could be that the Yanks are a little more straightforward given their larger than usual draft allotment.   We'll see.  Go Yanks!

Hope you're right about Katoh. I would be very disappointed if the Yankees drafted a lower salaried guy just to save money here. That is a strategy for rounds 5-10, not round 2.

I get leery of a 2B drafted early, unless he has an elite bat. Most 2B are converted from other positions.

He's got 70 speed! Everything I've found out about him has been really positive on both the talent and baseball IQ stuff. I think he may have been a little underrated cause he doesn't look like a typical draft pick.
