Yankees Draft `13: The Case For For Going Overboard

Okay, we all know the Yanks have about 8 million, plus 5% that they can comfortably spend on this year's draft.  The reason they have so much in their draft allotment is because of the two extra picks they got from losing Swisher and Soriano in free agency.   Now, if they go over that 5% it will cost them next year's first.   However; if the Yanks tender Granderson and Hughes at the first round level, they would still have two first rounders next year.  So, if they believe there's enough high end talent where they are picking,  they might just blow it up.   Though, it seems unlikely since Hal wasn't into spending on the draft when they could have gone overboard every year.

Also, though they are in it right now,  their run differential ain't looking so hot, thus next year's first could end up being in the top 20 somewhere. And if they have that and two more comp firsts, they'd be in very good shape indeed.  So maybe they should try to make do with 8.4M this year.
