Yankee Draft `13: Yanks Take Katoh
Wow. The Yanks went out of most people's top 200 by taking High School 2B Gosuke Katoh from Rancho Bernardo, CA. He's a legit draft prospect who plays 2B because he has a weak arm, but a great glove. He's also patterned his swing after Ichiro's and it's worked for him. He's committed to UCLA, which is usually a tough one to break, but you have to wonder if they have some deal in place. He cannot possibly be worth the slot where he was taken, people just don't draft HS 2B's. They make people 2B's after drafting them. They all get drafted as shortstops, cause they're worth more in the draft. This is slightly ponderous, unless it's part of a money deal, where we're saving up for something else. Just different than what the Yanks usually do. Odd.
Well, that's it for today. The Yanks made four intriguing, or perhaps three intriguing and one odd pick on the first day, and as always, we'll have to see how it plays out. Go Yanks.
