Yankee Draft `13: Day 1
Day1 of the Rule 1V Draft. Yankees.com and it's parent MLB.com are probably the places to be, when the the previews start around 6pm est, and the draft clock starts at 7pm est. They are making the first 78 picks tonight, so the Yanks will pick 4 times: 26, 32, 33, and 66. Day 1 will actually be streamed on MLBtv, as well as shown on the MLB station. Some time tomorrow they will probably stop broadcasting and just start streaming the conference call, which is monotonous, but you get the picks. Also, make sure you open the draft tracker. It features all the picks, some times before they are announced, and also has videos for many of the picks, as well as filters, so you can look at just Yankee picks, etc.
The MLB draft is different from the NFL draft in a lot of ways, but primarily because the picks don't have to play any time soon. In the NFL they essentially have to make the big league team as rookies, where most MLB draft picks have to wend their way through the minors. There are also at least 2000 draft eligible player in this year's draft, so, unless you have your own scouting staff it's harder to get encyclopedic, or pretend to be on this year's draft pool. Now the Yanks do have their own scouting staff and will be working the phones, so try not to get frustrated if they take someone with an under slot price or a series of them at some point in the draft. That just means they are saving up, either for a move they've already made or one they will be making later.
I'll post whatever else comes up, and certainly try to make sense of the first four picks they do make tonight. Go Yanks!
