Yankee Draft `13: First Round Review
While we're waiting for pick 66, let's take a look at what the Yanks did with their three first rounders. They sort of went against theme by taking 2 college bats, but then followed it up by taking the kind of high upside lefty they've been short on. I mentioned in one of the earlier notes that we might see more college picks because our rapidly aging lineup is breaking down. I didn't think we'd grab two in the first round. I kind of thought we might go Jagielo and two preps. Instead, we went two college bats and a prep pitcher. Jagielo and Judge will almost certainly be assigned to Staten Island when they sign. And those two sluggers could actually draw some people to the Island. It should a fun summer. Meanwhile, if he signs in time, Ian Clarkin will spend the summer sweating it out playing noon games in Tampa. We did choose some things we weren't long on, like advanced college power bats and high upside LHP prospects. So, so far, so good. Now let's take more preps! Go Yanks!
