Avery Waived
It has happened. Today, the Rangers have waived Sean Avery, perhaps ending one of the strangest player tenures in team history. When the Rangers first acquired Avery, he was a breath of chippy air, to the soft, veteran laden Renney era Rangers. His brand of gritty, chippy and borderline dirty play made him a huge garden favorite. But as time went on, and the farm started to produce more physical and scrappy players like Callahan and Dubinsky, and trades yielded players like Prust, the things Avery used to bring to the Rangers became the rule instead of the exception. He never seemed to be on solid footing with Coach Tortorella, and over the past few years he's seemed less interested if not less skilled. Troubled though he was, Avery was a signifcant part of the transition from the Jagr era Rangers to the Farm Driven Ranger era.
Additionally, the move will add cap room in case the Rangers want to add another D or something else as the season moves on.

About time. I wish Christensen would have gone as well. Eminger has no business making the team either. Those two plus Feds will be gone next year no matter what, and we will have cap room to add where needed. It's a great thing knowing that we have the space going forward and we have a great system! Can't wait till Friday!!! Going to catch a few of the Whale games this year too, to see how are kids are doing.
I think we're going to be really good, and that a lot of our kids are gonna have huge seasons in juniors and school.
I agree with you, never has our future looked brighter. Sorry to see Wiese go
That was unfortunate. Can't wait till Bourque comes up.
