This Man Must Make The Postseason Roster

There were rumbling this week that the Yanks would leave Jesus Montero off of their postseason roster this year. That, of course, would be idiotic. As Jesus himself is now showing: he is not only ready; but he may already be elite. He's not only hitting with power, but he's taking his walks and collecting his singles as well. In scouting they grade power and hitting. 80 is the highest grade (though some organizations use different grading systems). Jesus Montero has 80 power and 80 hitting, and we're seeing why in his first taste of big league action. In three ab's today, he already has an RBI single, a 2 run double, and a solo jack, as the Yanks are crushing the Sox 9-1.

He's up again right now-let's see the AB. Takes a fastball high. Looks at a strike. Lays off another pitch away. Swing through one. Fouls one into the stands. Fouls back a pitch. Lays off a breaking pitch. 3-2... He thought he walked, as the pitch looked up but it was called a strike. Still, an 8 pitch ab, and he will get that high pitch eventually if he keeps laying off of it. That was his first out in two games.

The kid knows what he's doing and his catching has not been a problem. Keep this elite bat with the team. He'll help us win. Go Yanks!

I agree Phil. You need to give this kid his first taste of Yankee Playoff baseball. Playing with Jeter and feeling the fans intensity will only prepare him for his Yankee future. There is no telling whether he can keep this going into the playoffs, but he certainly has the talent and creates a very imposing bat in the middle or bottom of the lineup. I understand the sentimental feelings for Posada...he's been a great Yankee...but it is time to transition to the future. Montero needs to be on the roster.
