Game Winner!

Wow! Carmelo Anthony just hit a gamewinning shot with .05 seconds left in regulation. The Knicks had been up by as much as 17 but they went a little cold and dealt with a really lopsided foul situation all night. They shot wonderfully, but only got to the line twice! Anyway, Melo finished with 31 and Amar'e had 26. They are both playing really well, and really well together. As expected, Melo is turning out to be a bit more complete than people thought. Toney Douglas and Landry Fields have also stepped up lately, as has Roger Mason Jr. Douglas has a chance to be really, really good, though he still makes extra mistakes. Huge game against Dallas tomorrow. Go Knicks!

HUGE.

I expected them to lose last night. I think we did see why they should have given Brewer a shot.

That was his best game as a Mav, but given that, he did look useful.

Unacceptable. 3 times to Cleveland, 1,to Sacramento and Phoenix each... No Defense at home vs Indiana.... Still not convinced D'antoni will be here past his current deal and nor should he be..

Continued thoughts to those in Japan and closer tonhome here in Westchester the horrific bus accident

It's tough to watch, and it shouldn't be this bad against inferior talent.

It's always on the players, but I don't see how it's not on the coach as well.

At 8:18 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

The other players have to pick it up.

At 11:18 AM, Blogger Rich said...

If the Knicks lose tonight, I think the coach has to go...immediately.

btw, I think they'll win, but my point remains.

So far same $... Different night. I agree w u Rich D'antoni needs to go

At 6:37 PM, Blogger Michael said...

jefferies is a total waste, 2 in a row to the Pacers plus the losses I mentioned above plus aim sure there are more... D'antoni has no more excuses it's time he goes awat

At 6:42 PM, Blogger Rich said...

There is no good reason why this should be happening. It's time to recognize that D'Antoni was a mistake and move on.

At 7:30 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Is he gone yet?

At 7:15 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Every game is becoming a must win. It's time to reassert the home court advantage.

btw, Can Shelden Wiliiams really be worse than Jeffries, who absolutely blows.

At 7:12 PM, Blogger Rich said...

If only this team played hard every night.

At 7:16 PM, Blogger Rich said...

This is a poorly coached team. Enough.

At 8:19 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Detroit???? the list just keeps on growing...

At 8:32 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

i still think they'll get hot and go on a run. We're not going to win a lot of games with Melo scoring 6 or 8 pts. And he is not coached to score only that amount.

At 10:37 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I think they play up or down to the competition. That's why I blame the coach.

They should go on a run. They have the talent. With the right coach, I think they could go to the EC Finals.

I don't think they've played together long enough to have definitely demonstrated that profile. They should have won tonight, but Carmelo didn't score and the Pistons seemed to get some home cooking. Huge trades are disruptive. I think they're still getting on the same page.

This is pretty revealing:

Stoudemire restaked his claim as the team leader and the voice of the franchise when he called on Mike D’Antoni to go back to the system the Knicks employed before the trade rather than continue on with this plodding, predictable halfcourt game that D’Antoni surrendered to when Anthony arrived.

“Absolutely, absolutely, that’s the way we’re going to win,” Stoudemire said of the need to get back to the uptempo, pick-and-roll style. “That’s the way we’ve proven that works with the team we had before the trade and it can work with the guys we have now. It’s just a matter of us buying into it and really trying to understand that our ultimate goal is to make the playoffs and see what we can do.”

At 8:46 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It seems Carmelo has to get onboard.

At 9:21 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Yes, but the coach's weakness isn't helping.

At 10:55 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I'm not at the practices, so I don't know what anyone's weakness is. The roster lacks a defensive big. That's an observable weakness.

At 12:07 PM, Blogger Rich said...

It doesn't appear to you that they play with more intensity v. good teams?

At 1:15 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

That seems to be an ego/peer thing among the big three. What those three have to learn is how to manage the games against the lesser opponents to the point where they can just pull away in the second half. They haven't figured that out, yet.

At 2:12 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Maybe, but Detroit and Cleveland suck pretty hard. You have to give a subpar effort to lose when you have the Knicks' talent.

At 2:32 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I'd love to see Rivers come here:

At 2:48 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

In the Cleveland and Detroit games, the opposition came out like it was their one and done elimination game. When the team was less veteran, they would meet that better, since the trade, they have not met it as well.

At 6:25 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I just read the whole Hahn article. It's pretty damning to both Melo and D'Antoni.

At 7:02 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Couldn't read it, but its still early, and this ain't Watergate.

At 9:06 PM, Blogger Rich said...

No, the problems are much more transparent.

At 9:07 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It's a 14 game sample.

At 9:31 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I just don't get the losses v. putrid teams while playing so well v. good or very good ones. That's why I have so little patience and I think it's about more than a learning curve.

At 9:44 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It's about assimilating a new team that hadn't played together and had very few practices and no camp. These things take time. They probably aren't going anywhere without a decent big man, and that can't be gotten till summer, due to the inclusion of Mozgov in the deal. Something has to be schemed there, to stop the lay-up lines and we don't seem to have the pieces yet.

At 1:01 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I hear that, but I don't get the lack of effort against bad teams. I also don't get D'Antoni changing his scheme to suit Melo.

I also don't think Mosgov is good to matter, but that's a minor thing.

I would, however, like to see Sh. Williams play.

Crazy two quarters.

At 4:13 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Michael put it best: unacceptable.

At 4:26 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

That was pretty simply some bad luck and a ref job.

At 7:23 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I thought they lost the game in the first quarter for neither of those reasons.

At 7:29 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Ball went in and out of the hoop all day on them. That was bad shooting luck. They still won the rest of the game, and would have won if not for so phantom calls that got Billiups out and no-calls. If you felt they lost it in the first quarter did you watch the rest of it?

At 8:56 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Yes, but digging out of a hole like that can be draining, and it cuts down on your margin for error, which is what paying for shots that rim out is.

I heard Broussard say that D'Antoni is known for being an offensive whiz, but also for an inattention to defense and overall detail.

That's what I'm seeing.

Since I'm powerless to fire him, I'd love to be wrong.

I don't think I will be, but I want to be.

At 9:04 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

They played D today. They don't have anyone to guard Bogut and he had a big day, cause they kept fouling him. Carmelo had a few mistakes on D, as did Douglas, but the effort was there. They just had no luck.

At 10:23 AM, Blogger Rich said...

They play D but only intermittently.

I think they risk doing lasting (although probably not permanent) damage to the way Melo and the team in general in perceived.

It's not all on D'Antoni, as I have said it's always on the players first, but I see him as part of the problem, so it's time to go (or should be, because he isn't going).

At 11:14 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think we just have to be patient, and they'll go on a run.

At 8:32 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Like Tom Petty said Freefalling they are free falling at least it was to a quality team.. I understand it takes time but Rich and Clyde makevan excellent point consistency. they remind me of former Knick Johnny Newman very sporadic. It's majority on the players I understand, however D'antoni has to stop being so inflexible. I still question whether or not he is th man long terms. Rich I agree with your suggestion and would welcome Doc Rivers on board, and feel he would make a huge difference ESP if we get Deron or Paul he could really have a positive influence on them

At 8:35 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

it's hard to get consistent with a lot of new parts and little practice time. THey'll go on a run.

At 9:16 PM, Blogger Rich said...

If they played like this v. bad teams, they'd beat them regularly, but instead their effort is as inconsistent as D'Antoni's substitution patterns.

I'm losing interest.
