Yanks Getting Ready to Offer Lee 5 Years?

There are reports flying around that the Yankees will be offering Cliff Lee a 5 year deal worth 120M. That ought to do the trick. There would probably be options involved, but I'm not too worried about 5 years for Lee given his lean build and reliance on pitchability. The Yanks have done phenomenally well over the years with lefties who can field.

Dont think this will be enough.

It will take more $$$.

Who is going to come close to those numbers?

TX can offer less and come out ahead due to not having state taxes.

He wants 7 and will get it.

like the Jeter talks this wont be their last offer, just a starting point to let teams know they will go as high as it takes to get Lee

If it takes more than 5 years, I don't want him, but then again, maybe 6 years for Lee is more prudent than 3 years for Jeter.

I seriously doubt any team offers more than six for Lee.

The Yankees have no reason to increase the current rumored offer for Jeter. And they won't.

It is a very strong first offer but I think the Yanks will move higher to snag Lee, just as they did with Sabathia. Hopefully they don't have much competition. However, we have seen teams sneak in in the eleventh hour, like the Angels, to stir the pot.

Mo wants a 2 year deal at 18MM per.

Yanks want to offer a 1 year deal.

Texas can't offer the sponsorship opportunities that New York can.

How do we know that report is accurate?

Heyman says the three-year offer to Jeter is not the team's last one. I pray that he is wrong, unless the next offer is less years and dollars.

Nevermind, I saw his latest Tweet.

It's an awful lot of noise about a player who will probably be league average, at best, for the rest of his career.

it's too bad our system hasn't managed to turn out any shortstop prospects. where could the yanks turn, if not to jeter?

What often gets overlooked is that the Yankees may have to get a new SS even if Jeter re-signs.

At 2:38 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just lock up Jeter for 4 years.

Ramirez and Tulowitzki will be FA after 2014.

At 2:48 PM, Blogger Rich said...

You want to sign a player coming off a 90 OPS+ season to a 4 year contract? Why not 10 years?

At 5:58 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Do you think they will settle on 3 years??

Let's be real.

At 8:33 PM, Blogger MikeK said...

No one else is going to match the Yankees' offer. Let's be real: He'll have no choice.

Rich we are in firm agreement. Why should we overpay? Our 15 million is allready overpay by some accounts 8 million per on the open market. Now he wants 22-24? No thank you. My biggest concern is the years. I want no more then 3. If we have to up the annual value fine to keep the years in check. I do not want to see anything longer then 3 which is a a reach at best. Look at Posada, need we say more?

Didn't Yanks bid against themselves with Sabathia?

They offered 7 years when no team offered 6 if I recall.

Now that is real!

You're comparing a then 28 year old elite starting with a SS going into his age 37 year old season who gave major signs that he may be declining both at the bat and in the field?

Their strategy with CC was to demonstrate to the competition that they were not going to be outbid because starting pitchers of that caliber and age almost never reach free agency, and the Yankees desperately needed him.

There is no similarity whatsoever to what Jeter currently is.

What team will even offer Jeter $10m over two years, let alone three?

Jeter did win a GG this past year so his decline with his glove is a bit overstaed.

Yanks should be offering Jeter 2/20so why are they offering 3/45?? Its an overpayment and Yanks are stuck.

Jeter supposedly wants 5/6 years and will ultimately settle for 4.

He will sign for at least 4 years or 3 with an option.

Tino once lost a GG to Raphael Palmeiro. The award is a joke.

Vaz signed with the Marlins! We get at least a sandwich pick and possibly another first!

At 4:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I thought the Yankees only get one supplemental pick for losing Vazquez between the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Am I mistaken?

At 11:17 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

If Vaz dropped down to a B grade, we only get the Sandwich pick

Jenks, Church, Lopez and Hairston were all non-tendered.

Yanks should be in on all.

At 9:42 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Not Church.

Olney says Yanks are in on Crawford...

That's probably just for price support.
