Hal Says Payroll Will Stay About The Same

Hal has not joked around about payroll in past, so he probably isn't today. Remember, that there are some contracts that go up this year, I believe Swisher's and Granderson's are among them. So, in order to add Lee, they may have to get family discounts from Jeter and Mo. We'll see, but at the conclusion to today's "organizational meetings" he made his proclamation. So it could be a winter of chicken with Jeter and Mo, especially if they go right after Lee.

He was willing to make an exception for Teixeira. I'm sure he'll do the same for Lee.

I would see if they would be open to taking hometown discounts regardless. I doubt they'd like that, though.

Jeter doesn't have to offer a discount in order to be vastly overpaid.

His OPS+ was 90 this year.

What's that worth in the real world?

There are brand considerations, to factor in from the Yankee pov and Jeter's agent is not going to focus on his one bad season. It will be about the chase to 3000, etc.

Yes, but even with brand considerations, taken togetehr with any other reasonable measure that could possibly be factored in that would be inure to Jeter's benefit, $15m AAV is still a massive overpay.

In both interviews Hal went out of his way to speak about possible trades when Francesa and Kay spoke about free agents
