Oh Well

Tough as it was to end the season that way, I think a lot of us preferred to take out chances and keep Jesus Montero, then trade future core for a sure repeat. Obviously, there will be changes this offseason, but once again, we'll have to hope they don't include blowing up the farm to add more vets to an oldish team. I don't know what will happen with Joe Girardi, but I hope hope Trey Hillman is on the short list to replace him should he go join the Cubs. The Yanks should be in the mix again next year. Let's hope for a wise and successful offseason. Go Yanks!

I hope the Yankees are prepared to give Cliff Lee a blank check, because that's what it'll take to get him out of Texas.

Girardi can't go to the Cubs.

This offsseason will reveal a lot about Cashman's judgment and/or his true power.

The person I would really like to see go is Dave Eiland.

So what will happen this offseason?

Lee...Hope this is a given.

Pettite...Hope he returns

Crawford/Werth...One of these

Posada/Montero...Posada should have his catchers gear stripped of him and make him the DH.

Resign Wood and cross your fingers that he stays healthy.

Trade Gardner and Joba for a 3rd SP.

I'd prefer Werth to Crawford if Werth could be had for five years, $15 to $17 million per year type deal.

Lee is going to cost a fortune to convince him to leave Texas.

Next year is make or break for me in regard to Hughes. Show me you're the pitcher we all thought you were coming through the minors. There are several guys there now that could fill in the void if he falters.

They aren't signing Lee and Werth without deleting payroll. Gardner is one of their few cost-controlled players, so he's staying. That leaves trading either Swisher or Granderson. There is no other way around that.

Trading this low on Joba makes no sense.

If you think Hughes underperformed, and then add in where Joba currently is at in his career, the inescapable conclusion is that Eiland has to take some responsibility.

If Cash can't see that, maybe he isn't the right guy to run this team.

...unless Pettitte retires and the Yankees trade for a cost-controlled pitcher. Or they somehow find someone to take Burnett. (Doubtful, but not totally impossible, IMO.)

I think all the coaches should be evaluated. Not saying I want them all gone (certainly not Pena or Long), but no one is above evaluation.

Mike

If they can trade Burnett, I will buy you a beer.

Gave up drinking I'm afraid, but I'll settle for a cookie. :P

It'll take a lot of magic (and eating money). I'll be surprised, but not shocked, if they can somehow pull it off.

The only way to unload Burnett, it to take on an equally bad contract.

Only one comes to mind and that is Zambrano and his contract is worse.

I think Posada is shot. He's been a great Yankee but he is not even good enough to be full time DH. We can only hope that Tex and Arod have better years in them. I think we can live with Jeter for a couple more years though he may bounce back and surprise. We need another clutch bat or two, possibly Crawford and Montero. This club needs to get younger but it may take a few years for it to happen.

I'm wondering just how much A-Rod's hip has deteriorated in the span of a year. If that was truly the problem, as I suspect, they need to get him off third base ASAP.

Teix is what he is -- a very good hitter and defender who has noticeable holes in his swing that better pitchers can exploit. I hope he works hard this offseason with Long.

Eiland is out

Hey Rich, looks like I'm the one that owes you a beer.

Phil, any inside info on Eiland being let go? Private issues or the Yankees just weren't pleased?
