Girardi Returns With a Three Year Deal

That didn't take long. Girardi got a 3 year, 9 million dollar deal from the team. That's just two million more than they were paying Torre for 1 year, so, performance will be a big issue. He's a better manager when CC is healthy;)

They were paying Torre $7m. They offered him $5m for 2008.

The new pitching coach's identity will probably reveal a lot about Girardi. If it's Harkey...........

I hope it's Peterson or Mazzone.

I doubt seriously that Girardi has the final say on who the pitching coach is.

Mazzone's philosophy on pitchers doesn't jive with the front office's. Given how the Yankees have ruined Wang and Chamberlain, and how the jury is still out on Hughes, I personally wouldn't mind a "second opinion," so to speak.

Wang ruined himself with his foot injury and then hurt his shoulder when his foot didnt heal right.

They pitched Wang in 2009 before he was fully recovered and that likely contributed to his shoulder injury.

They also didn't keep Neil Allen who taught him the sinker.

To expand on that point, when Wang lost the sink on his sinker, they only had Eiland to work with him, and obviously that didn't work out too well.

The Yankees screwed up his rehab from the get-go, telling him not to run at all that offseason. Thus, he had no leg strength, which is lethal for any pitcher, particularly a sinkerballer.

As Rich already said, they added insult to injury by pitching him before he was ready in 2009.

It's really a shame what happened to him. If he doesn't get hurt in 2008, we aren't stuck with Burnett's awful deal.
