Betemit!

It seems there's a 50/50 chance the Yanks will pick up the versatile Wilson Betemit from the Dodgers for the durable Scott Proctor. I'm with the 50 who says we get him. I read a report where an NL scout was bashing him, but I see a player who is finally understanding the strikezone and taking some walks. He still has some upside now that the strikezone is a friend, and it would be nice to see the Yanks benefit from the switch hitting Betemit. Make it happen, Cash!

UPDATE: This is the latest Yankee! Way to go, Cash! Now fix the Pen!

we gotta make this and gagne happen

At 3:25 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If we can come out of this trade deadline with Betemit, Gagne and Damaso Marte then I will be a happy camper.

At the same time unloading Proctor, Farnsworth and others.

At 4:21 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I agree with both Dan and Anthony, Proctor and Farns are addition by subtraction, and Gagne will solidify the pen.

At 7:39 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Supposedly Boston is close to getting Gagne according to Olney and Stark..

At 7:40 AM, Blogger Michael said...

for Craig Hansen, but no one has been able to confirm this report.

At 8:12 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

reports coming out now, that texas will sign gagne to an extension

At 8:14 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Ugh. I hope not true

At 8:25 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I don't believe Hansen has any value, and Boston's not on Gagne's trade list. I think they are just trying to get more out of the Yanks.

At 8:49 AM, Blogger Michael said...

It would seem like it. Do we have the best offer on the table?

At 8:51 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I would imagine so, cause we're the deepest farm of the three (Milwaukee's farm is good too, though). Anyway if the Yanke, Sox and Mets are protecting their A prospects, the Yankee's B prospects are better than the Sox or Mets B prospects.

At 8:53 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Could we get him for B prospects or will we have to throw an A prospect in there?

At 8:54 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

it's a relative term, but we're not throwing in any of the players on the safe list.

At 8:55 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

foxsports says were almost out of deal because Cash believes hes going to mets, redsox or brewers

At 8:55 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

okay, NEXT!

At 8:56 AM, Blogger Michael said...

That's what I wanted to hear. T-minus 4 hours, hopefully we hear some news soon on a few different fronts..

At 8:57 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

its not okay, if we keep this bullpen we are flucked

At 8:57 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

dan, do you know what Joba Chamberlain did last night?

At 8:59 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yea i saw his stats in AAA, do you know what happens when torre over uses him and he hurts himself and then were flucked...because this orginization is gonna make a move to bring up a starting pitcher to be a reliever

At 9:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Stat last night in AAA***

At 9:01 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

they're not gonna let Torre abuse him. but between Mo, Viz and Joba, we're in much better shape than we were when we played Sunday.

At 9:01 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Looks like Dye to Boston according to 1050 ESPN and Chicago Sun Times.

At 9:01 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

What did Boston give up?

At 9:02 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i would rather have gagne then Viz

At 9:03 AM, Blogger Michael said...

it was a minor league pitcher trying to get the name

At 9:04 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

so would everyone on earth with a pulse. But I'd rather have Alan Horne than Gagne and it looks like we've draw a line. Cash will probably get something else done for the pen if not Gagne.

At 9:05 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Just A minor league pitcher?

At 9:06 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Proctor done deal for betemit

At 9:06 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Bingo!!!!!!!!!!!

At 9:07 AM, Blogger Michael said...

correction on Dye report said Delcarmen and Willy Mo for Dye.

At 9:08 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i dont think were done yet

At 9:08 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

That's still not much.

At 9:08 AM, Blogger Michael said...

ESPN Radio in NY saying Boston making big push for Gagne.

I agree Dan we are not done.

At 9:09 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

dan I don't either.

btw, Joba's fastball was 99 and 100 last night, and his slider was 90! He got one of his three K's with a curveball!

At 9:14 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Good first move by Cash, I agree with the resident Yankee experts more is coming.

At 9:15 AM, Blogger Michael said...

btw 1:30 on ESPN they are having a live trade special show

At 9:16 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

my satellite receiver blew yesterday and they can't get me a new one till tomorrow.

At 9:19 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Damn them! attend to this matter today sattelite company :)

I will keep posting anything I hear on the blog as I will have it on.

Matt SGS over on BBI is speculating that we may have gotten Gagne based on another source he trusts. Not confirming anything however.

At 9:25 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Boston traded Piniero to St Louis for a prospect.

At 9:27 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Matt in SGS has always had really good sources.

At 9:33 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I agree with that. He said that he was basing his speculation on River Fan whom knows someone in the LA front office. Saying Yanks were the holdup on the Proctor trade, pending something else(Gagne). He says he thinks the Buster Olney report Boston is in the lead is a plant to drive the price up, and thinks it will work. I think he is right with his opinion.

At 9:35 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I don't think Buster did that on purpose, if he was mislead it was by someone who wanted to drive the price up, not Olney himself.

At 9:37 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I agree that Buster is merely reporting what he hears. My gut feeling says he gets traded before 4pm.

At 10:14 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

now gagne is out of the picture again, i wonder who were working on...dotel/reyes maybe

At 10:14 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

where did Gagne go?

At 10:16 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

nowhere, its just being reported were out of it again, because cashman doesnt want to give up horne

At 10:18 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

let's see what happens. And Horne should be a deal breaker. Peter Abraham says Edwar is coming back up for Bruney who will go down and get fixed.

One thing that bugs me, is our major leagu pitching coaches are not as good as our minor league pc's at fixing these cats.

At 10:18 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I think Texas will blink on Gagne, and if we get him it will be for something like the rumored deal last night.

At 10:19 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yea thats a very good statemnt about our ML pitchng

At 10:19 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

ML Pitching Coaches***

At 10:20 AM, Blogger Michael said...

A very telling statement.. Was Gator Cash's choice?

At 10:20 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

it took all of 1 minute to fix Edwar once he went back down.

At 10:21 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think so, but it might have been Joe's idea.

At 10:21 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

or rather, it might have been who Cash had to get to make Joe shut up about Mel.

At 10:22 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I still think we are getting another reliever, and Farnsworth is out. I am not sure they think Edwar can take on a heavy load yet. He will certainly be used more but if he is used at a Proctor rate he will burn out twice as fast.

At 10:22 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i think Gator was also Georges Idea

At 10:23 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i cant believe im saying this but if we dont trade for another reliever we cant trade farnsworth

At 10:23 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I'm sure we are trading for another reliever.

At 10:24 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

every year, the Yanks make a move or two right at the deadline, sometimes, we don't hear about them till after the deadline.

At 10:24 AM, Blogger Michael said...

No offense to Gator, but should't he be able to fix our ML pitchers? Which is why I asked who really wanted him. Phil makes an excellent point our minor league coaches can fix our guys faster then the major leaguers..

At 10:26 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

it might have to do with scheduling, and the fact that our major league coaches know the proper mechanics for Pettitte, Moose, etc but just don't know anything about these kids from the minors (though clearly Gator has studied Hughes).

At 10:35 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Gammons said Mets are out of it for Gagne, Olney says Mets focusing on Cordero.

At 10:35 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

keep it coming, I got no tv till tomorrow!

At 10:36 AM, Blogger Michael said...

you got it!! Gammons says the Dye deal is off for now Boston wont deal DelCarmen.

At 10:38 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Olney says Red Sox in lead for Gagne. Says not sure if Gagne waives no trade.

At 10:39 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Olney is saying what he's been fed. They don't want to make the Yanks think they have no hope, so...

At 10:41 AM, Blogger Michael said...

From what you can gather are we seriously in the Gagne talks do we have a legit shot?

At 10:45 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

as long as no deal sending him elsewhere is announced, we have a shot.

At 10:51 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Olney will have a new update when they return from commercial.

At 10:53 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Gordon Edes is reporting Texas may try to resign Gagne

At 10:54 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Starks just said its down between Red Sox and Brewers for Gagne

At 10:54 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

doubtful, this is all an attempt to get the Yanks to give up Horne.

At 10:54 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Stark/Gammons say Brewers or Red Sox for Gagne

At 10:56 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Let's get Marte, then.

At 10:58 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

big difference

At 10:59 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Marte's have a GREAT year and is a former Yankee prospect.

At 11:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7072074

almost done deal for Gagne to Boston...horne..flucking horne

At 11:01 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

You're mad we didn't trade Horne?

At 11:02 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

you know what i am and so are other yankee fans...you have Joba, Hughes, Kennedy, Sanchez...you can risk trading one pitcher to win it this season...with the bullpen we have right now were not going far in the playoffs if we even make it

At 11:05 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

that's plain wrong. Whoever trades for Gagne is getting twenty innings. We get to keep six years of Alan Horne, who I have seen twice and would be the #1 pitcher on a lot of other farms. If we get Marte, dump Farns and call up Edwar and Joba we have an awesome pen.

At 11:07 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i understand that but if you let gagne go to the red sox of all teams, its just not cool

At 11:09 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

heyman said its done deal...

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/07/31/gagne.redsox/index.html

At least we have farnsworth still

At 11:09 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I can't tell you how many times the Red Sox have made some amazing deal and still failed to win. Actually I can. All but once in the modern era. I love Edwar and Joba (who will be tightly controlled by forces above Joe Torre) and if we get Marte or another part, we will have kicked butt. We can hit Okajima and Paplebon.

At 11:10 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Heyman reporting it now

He still has to waive his no trade.

At 11:12 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

talks of Humber for Cordero...(mets-nationals)...horrible trade for mets

At 11:12 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Omar is dumb.

At 11:15 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Olney reports it as well, saying they still have to agree to waive no-trade.

At 11:16 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Boras is Gagne's agent, right?

At 11:17 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Yes Boras is Gagne's agent.

At 11:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yea he might give Boston a hard time

At 11:18 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Philips says Tigers want to get Marte and Wilson in a package deal.

At 11:30 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Stark says Dotel still in play. Teams are calling Braves about Wickman.

At 11:31 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Rangers have not signed off on Tex deal according to Stark.

Stark says Murky Gabbard from Boston about Gagne, says they are dealing with Boras now.

At 11:32 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Says none of the Atlanta deals are official.

Phillips not so sure Red Sox will be able to negotiate with Boras.

At 11:33 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I mean Murphy, not Murky.

At 11:34 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

under ninety minutes left.

At 11:37 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i swear to god Gammons makes every Boston Prospect sound like Phil Hughes...Its Gross...I think Texas gives Boston 1 hour to get deal done with boras/gagne which is 330 and if not they find another suitor

At 11:37 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I hope Boras blocks the Gagne deal.

At 11:38 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I hope Cash isn't sitting around waiting for that to happen.

At 11:39 AM, Blogger Michael said...

I think the package from Boston is weak compared to our offer.

Stark had a lot of good info, he seems to be most on the ball of the Insiders.

At 11:39 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

It is weak compared to our offer.

At 11:41 AM, Blogger Michael said...

It sounds like exactly what you said earlier Phil, Texas wants us to up the ante.. Their loss if they settle on the Boston deal.

At 11:43 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Matt In SGS makes an excellent point on Gagne, saying that going to Boston may decrease his future trade value.

Ravech just said White Sox looking to extend Dye. They promise to have a Gagne update after the break.

At 11:44 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

its gonna be the same thing that Boras is talking with Boston

At 11:46 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Amy Nelson is reporting they are talking about restructuring Gagne's deal. Talking about moving costs as well.

At 11:50 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Stark just said Dotel to Braves Offical

At 11:50 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

meaningless.

At 11:51 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Olney says Yankees were told to get Gagne they had to give up Kennedy or Melky for him.

At 11:52 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Sox may have included Engle Beltre in the Gagne deal.

At 11:52 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Phillips saying we should have given up Melky. There was another prospect Olney mentioned possibly going to Boston missed his name.

At 11:53 AM, Blogger Michael said...

That's the name I missed. Thank you

At 11:53 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yanks are thinking too highly of Melky, to fucking highly

At 11:53 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

you mean going to Texas. And that Phillips thinks Melky should have been traded shows why he is sitting there and not making deals today.

At 11:54 AM, Blogger Michael said...

Yes thank you Phil going to Texas.

At 11:54 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i forgot us yankee fans think every young player is our future

At 11:56 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

dan, wise up. The kid is 22, the second best defensive CF in the AL, and his OPS have been over .800 since he got the CF job. He's had a big July and his arrow is pointing up.

At 11:58 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I hear Phillips was bad mouthing Melky, too, and he's a fucking imbecile with a looooong track record of being so.

At 12:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

we all have our opinons and im just saying i dont think Melky is our future

At 12:00 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Phillips said Yankees should have traded him, and looked at a Hunter in the off-season as a free agent.

At 12:01 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

he probably is till Carlos Urena is ready. He's a little ahead of where Bernie was at 22.

At 12:03 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Hunter's having a way out of context year, but he generally is the most overrated player in the world.

At 12:06 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

55 minutes left.

At 12:06 PM, Blogger Michael said...

It's amazing how we always have to overpay teams in trades. Boston with this deal and Schilling are proof of that.

I hope GM's learn Cash wont overpay.

At 12:07 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

what's gonna be funny in the next few years will be watching Cash make teams overpay for our excess prospects.

At 12:10 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Excellent point! Cash will make them overpay.

Only thing I dont like is Boston getting a pick if he goes there, do not think he resigns there.

At 12:12 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Phillips is questioning Cashman right now, and he says the NY fans will be as well. Says the Yankees are doing little.

Ensberg to Padres

At 12:18 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

this is lame

At 12:19 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

This is fun.

At 12:23 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

only thing i have a problem with ur boy cash is...our number 1 weakness is bullpen, so he trades bullpen and gets none back..yea we know Joba and Edwar are coming back up but they both havent proved anything in the majors...i just hope it doesnt backfire

At 12:25 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

The deadline hasn't come yet.

Cash is really patient. Don't let it bug you.

At 12:43 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yay Gagne to Red Sox

Wake Up Cashman

At 12:43 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Olney says Gagne done.

At 12:44 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Sox had to throw in Engle Beltre. That would be like us adding Jesus Montero. Pretty f'in crazy for a rental he may not even be a Type A.

At 12:45 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

down to 15 minutes.

At 12:46 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

serious question, if yankees dont make playoffs do you really think Cashman will be back next year

At 12:47 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I do.

At 12:48 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

so do i but he shouldnt

At 12:49 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Padres want Igawa

At 12:49 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

he got the farm rebuilt and reloaded. That seemed like it would take a hell of a lot longer two years ago. And he protected the future.

At 12:50 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

10 minutes, and remember sometimes trades don't come out for a few hours.

At 12:50 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

At 12:51 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

can a team ask for an extension

At 12:51 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Apparently Igawa was not available according to a SD paper.

At 12:52 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

dan, they have to have it on the commish's desk, but I'm sure they allow a little stuff like that to happen, just not officially.

At 1:03 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i mean what time last year

At 1:03 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

about an hour later. I wouldn't wait for anything, we just might get a surprise.

At 1:06 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

if this is only move we make i give us a D+

At 1:07 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

we just have to catch Cleveland. I give us an INC. cause I think we might still hear something, and the internal solution could be amazing.

At 1:09 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I'm running out for awhile.

At 1:10 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Kay says we were never close for Gagne. Horne was never involved in talks. Texas only wanted Hughes Kennedy or Joba.

Kay does not expect anything else.

At 1:49 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Kay is wrong. Or he doesn't want people to get cranky about the good news regarding Horne.

At 1:55 PM, Blogger Michael said...

You mean he is wrong about the offer? Not the fact that a deal may come out?

At 1:56 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

he's wrong about what the sticking point was.

At 2:01 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Gotcha, does not seem like we made any other deal besides Betemit. I hope Farnsworth is benched permanently.

At 2:05 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I don't haven't heard anything yet and I'm getting the feeling that what Joba and Ohlendorf have done out of the pen lately has changed some plans.

At 2:06 PM, Blogger Michael said...

That is what Gammons said earlier the reason we did not make changes is b/c of Joba/Ohlendorf.

I am surprised though we could not move Farnsworth.

At 2:11 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Pirates got Matt Morris, very interesting.

At 2:16 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Jon Heyman is ripping Cashman as well.

At 2:19 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Heyman is very adamant we should have stepped up for Gagne, says Boston is far and away better then we are. Not sure we catch the Indians, says if we make it past them we will be done in the 1st round.

At 2:20 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I like Heyman buy he's not judge of horseflesh.

At 2:23 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Agreed. He says he grew up a Yankee fan, and is disappointed in Cashman's lack of moves.

At 2:24 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

he doesn't appreciate the farm enough.

At 2:26 PM, Blogger Michael said...

He did not seem to. He said he understands why they did not do anything but does not agree with it.

At 3:00 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Cash said Texas was being too greedy. Will not trade a starter in next years rotation.

Torre says Betemit reports tomorrow plays 2nd 3rd and 1st.

Not looking to peddle Farnsworth he said. Make no mistake Farnsworth will be gone this off-season.

At 3:02 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

where did you hear this?

At 3:03 PM, Blogger Michael said...

on 1050 ESPN Radio Andrew Marchand interviewed Cash and Joe.

At 3:03 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Cash also said Joba wont be called up yet. He also said he will start innings only not come in the middle of them. Tomorrow Edwar or Karstens will be called up, and Hughes should be starting this weekend Cash said.

At 3:05 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

good stuff I wonder if it will be available for download later.

At 3:07 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Not sure, They only played a minute or two of it, and then Kay who had heard the whole thing said some of the stuff that Marchand told him Cash and Joe told him.

At 5:07 PM, Blogger Michael said...

Not sure if it's accurate but supposedly Schefter on NFL Network said Strahan has played his last game as a Giant and will be allowed to seek a trade.

At 5:09 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

who knows? Who cares?
