Yanks Day 2 Draft Review

On Day 2 the Yanks were both business as usual - and off the beaten track at the same time. Business as usual in that the Yanks picked a lot of intriguing pitchers (between 2 and 100, and off the beaten track in that one of them was not a prep pitcher - in fact, the Yanks picked no preps at all on Day 2 and only one on Day 1. They also didnt take any JuCo's and that's where they've been finding guys like Breaux and Amburgey during the pool process.  No, the Yanks took only college players, a mix of 4th year juniors and one senior  For pool purposes seniors are the guys that get 5K bonuses.  And that's what 4th year juniors will be next year if they don't make a deal now.

Also, in this period, the Yanks have always gotten their top 10 signed and nothng happened yesterday to change that expectation. In fact, it looks like they saved a bunch of dough by avoiding preps and JuCo's, ie the players with real options and real leverage.  But, to what end did they do this?  There are only 2 real possiilities: first, they're giving Volpe 3.5M or something even bigger, or they saved money for Day 3.

We should know in the first few rounds. Could be a fun day.
