This Week on the Blog

This was an insteresting week, as the Yanks overperformed ahead of the non-waiver deadline, the Rangers made nice moves, the Knicks rested on their recent laurels, and the Giants continued to ignore the OL, which other teams will not.   This week, all four teams will be in action.

Giants: Later this week, the Giants will open their first Training Camp of the McAdo Era.  The reports will probably pick out the differences right away, but it will take well into the pre-season games for us to see if the coaching has been upgraded at all. In a very encouraging bit of news, Victor Cruz has been posting workout tapes and he looks like Victor Cruz.  And they still haven't addressed the OL.

Yanks: The Yanks need to sell.  They don't need to play every game like it's the last game of the world series and create unsustainable expectations.  So, hopefully, intelligence will prevail, though it doesn't always over there.

Rangers: The Rangers made a big trade that allowed them to get younger and pick up a future 2, and the extended Kreider for four more years, as well as giving Hayes a two year bridge deal. They're now pretty well positioned for another smart trade or two, if they want more changes.

Knicks: the Knicks were reported to be interested in Tobias Harris as well as Chasson Randle this past week.  They don't really have the ready assets or room to get Harris without a third team, and minutes for him would be a challenge.   Randle shined with their summer league team and they maybe should have tried to sign him then, than compete with two other teams now.

It'll be great to have all four teams going again.  And I hope it's a great week all around for all of you.

Yeah, but there's still time left before the deadline for them to get blown away with a Miller offer.

Beltran should bring back a lot as well.

No matter what they say, I suspect they are trying to negotiate a buyout with A-Rod.

NYC was crazy hot today.

LA too, and full of smoke for two fires.

If this article is correct, Hal is mentally challenged, making every decision about the direction of this team on a game to game basis:

They simply don't prioritize the long-term health of the franchise over the hopeful short-term profitability that comes with selling the team as a "contender" to fans. It's a lousy ownership group that is holding the fanbase hostage with its wrong-headed approach to running a team.

@JackCurryYES
Hearing nothing is imminent w/ possible Chapman deal. Yanks are fielding offers. But ownership hasn't said "sell" yet. 8 days until deadline

Worst owners in baseball considering the resources available to them.

I honestly think it's stupidity fostered by the

Gleyber Torres a Yankee target with the Cubs has been scratched from the lineup in High A ball.

Heyman reporting yanks and Cubs are trying to finalize a Torres + for chapman deal

Would love that, let's see how this plays out

At 4:59 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

If they're getting Torres for Chapman, can you imagine how much they could get for Miller?

At 5:05 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

A level scares me.

At 5:09 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

Cubs must be trying to extend Chapman to offer Torres plus for him

At 6:49 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

Soler might be part of deal as well

At 6:59 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

There are rumors that it could be an even bigger deal. I guess we'll see. Could also be a two parter.

Part of the high return is that alot of the top teams do not have a shut down reliever, the Yankees have 3 of them. They played it smart, pulling Miller off the market at least until Chapman is traded, he is the only available with 4-5 teams looking and offering competing offers. Now if Chapman does go, Miller might be floated before the Trade deadline.

I say no way Soler is part of this deal. What is a Cashman trade without a pitcher involved..

At 7:35 PM, Blogger TB said...

hm, looks like this deal is pending an extension...so I guess Chapman will not be back next year,,

At 8:46 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

I'm still willing to belong more trades are coming.

LINJ, I think/hope you are right. Have to believe now that the mediocre Yanks are weakened a bit, does it matter if more are sent packing? I say Beltran is a definite, maybe Gardner, Eovaldi, Pineda.

Yes, because if they are really trying to compete this year, why center the deal around a player a few years away?

That likely means that Hal is deferring to his baseball people's judgment, or there there is no plan, just some ad hoc moves without coherence.

Until proven otherwise, I will opt for the former.

Now, as an aside, Beltran is showing he is the kind of person you want in the organization, but they can re-sign in the offseason, or just wait until he retires.

Rosenthal is saying players have been agreed upon and they are finalizing now.

Says it's 4 players coming back for ONLY Chapman. All he knows is Torres and a very strong chance Adam Warren is included too.

At 7:32 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Can we send Castro back?

At 7:56 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Seriously, if Torres makes it, it's not unreasonable to think that 2B, SS, 3B will be filled by some combination of him, Didi, and Mateo. Given Castro's severe inconsistency and beyond terrible ISO D, there is really no place for him, or shouldn't be, on a potentially resurgent team. But what other team would take that contract?

At 9:07 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Sherman wants to burn down the farm system for Sale...'cause the Yankees don't have a ton of aging players who basically suck and would be fine if they traded all their potential replacements for a pitcher.

At 9:17 AM, Blogger Michael said...

For Torres, McKinney, Warren, and 1 more via Jon Heyman on twitter

At 9:17 AM, Blogger Billy Martin said...

reprots are saying it's done.

Torres
Warren
McKinney (another 1st rounder)
1 more player

for Chapman

Amazing

"The Yankees and Cubs have an Aroldis Chapman trade in place, reports Jon Heyman. Shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres, outfield prospect Billy McKinney, and right-hander Adam Warren are coming back to New York. The Yankees are likely to receive a fourth piece too. How about that? We’re still waiting on an official announcement from the team, just FYI."

I'd just wish they'd announce this or put the paper work in already before Chapman does something stupid(off the field) and blows up this beauty!!

At 9:30 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

It all depends what comes next.

But personal issues aside, Chapman is the best reliever I have seen other than Mo.

At 9:31 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

LINJ, this season is also showing how badly the Yankees screwed up not signing Beltran after the '04 collapse.

Seems to be a good haul for Chapman, so props to Cash and co., and Hal for signing off on it. And again, can you imagine what Miller would fetch back?

Curry says there is mutual interest in Chapman coming back as a free agent.

Michael, I hear this trade was contingent on Chapman extending. They will not get this kind of return for a 3 month rental. I heard 4 yr $60 M extension.

Chapmans team is not agreeing to an extension - he will enter FA.
