Rangers Summon Skjei

Because Dan Girardi is day to day with a knee, the Rangers called up Skjei to take his place.  This is a potentially big night for the franchise as their last first rounder will make his debut.  This will also shine a light on the idiocy of the Giradi and Staal deals.   And they're going to have to figure something out in the short term for the long term because sitting or sending down Skjei and or McIlrath could be off the table very soon.  Skjei and McIlrath were first pair for Hartford last year when they went on their playoff run.  Skjei is a great skater, like McDonagh, and I think he's even a bit bigger.  This is it for first rounders for awhile, unless the Rangers acquire some.

For too many teams in NY, staying in your lane has meant having to over rely on veterans. For the Rangers it should mean an over reliance on youth. Their development has been really good. Stick with your strength.

Preaching to the choir. Rangers and Yanks have drafted very well when they have picks, over the past several years. Also, Knicks are coming off a great draft and the Giants are snakebit.

Yes, but unlike the Yankees the Rangers actually have promoted a lot of these kids and watched them become stars or near stars. Since the late 90s, you can count the number of Yankees in that group on one hand. Curiously, they don't seem to trust many of their own prospects and seem to prefer those of other teams.

Rangers have promoted them "eventually" but just like the Yanks have blocked a bunch of them for a year or more with needless veteran signings.

If the Yankees get to the Rangers level of eventually that would be great!

That was me. I don't know why that happened.
