Yanks Win as Girardi Continues to Abuse Betances and Miller in Low Leverage Situations

Carlos Beltran hit a three run shot in the first, and Brian McCann hit a two run shot in the 6th, and that was your ball game. The Yanks either lead 3-0 or 5-0 all the way through, and yet, Joe Girardi managed to use Betances for a full inning and Miller to get the last out in the 9th. What the hell is wrong with this guy?  Neither pitcher should have gotten up in this game and yet, not only did he get them up, but he used them.   They should fire him tonight.  He's going to kill all the pitchers before he goes.

I don't get it either. Is he under that much pressure to beat the Mets?

It's not just the Mets but every game he's managing like a playoff Game 7. Big comeback win for the Red Sox tonight, 5 runs in the 9th to beat the Blue Jays :-)

He is one of the worst managers I've ever seen

NYDN

Major league sources say A’s GM Billy Beane offered Zobrist to the Yanks for second-base prospect Rob Refsnyder and either of two pitchers: Adam Warren or Bryan Mitchell.

The sources say GM Brian Cashman had serious interest but wasn’t willing to give up two young players for a potential rental, since Zobrist can be a free agent after the season.

That makes sense if the Yankees think Refsnyder can take over at second base as soon as next season. But you have to wonder about that, considering he hasn’t played at all since coming up earlier this month.

I think it's clear that there's a faction in the Yankee FO that wants Refsnyder playing second, while Girardi, for at least one, does not.

Didn't see the game but this mirrors what you said:

Refsnyder plus Warren/Mitchell for Zobrist would have been an awful deal.

Yeah too steep of a price for a FA. Could be signed this winter.

He would be a terrible signing. Mid-30s, signed thru decline phase, and further removes roster flexibility. OTOH, that checks every box of their prototypical FA signing and that is the reason even $200m buys mediocrity.

Better option than Drew and Refsnyder is not part of this team's long term plan....

Refsnyder will either be traded or end up back in SWB.

If he's not part of the long-term plan, then give Ackley a shot or find someone who can be part of the plan. Drew needs to go.

Better in year 1 maybe, but 1 year plans have been a disaster

Drew is gone barring a playoff performance miracle.

Jagielo isn't going to the AFL. No setback, but not enough progress to risk a setback, apparently.

TY Boston!!!

Have to find a way to win tonight but will be tough with Harvey on the mound.

2.5 GB with the next 4 against Toronto will be great.

Having pitchers who never hit, hit makes MLB bush league.
