Some Knicks Stuff
So the Knicks sort of secretly worked out D'Angelo Russell last week. And they've also worked out Mudiay. If either of this guards is available, they need to grab him. If they are both available because Porzingas has moved into the top three, they should take Russell, who I see as a bigger Steph Curry, though, if they like Mudiay, who can attack the rim from the wing or the middle of the Triangle, like Kobe and MJ did, I could understand that, too. What they can't do is take Willie Cauley-Stein at 4, and I wouldn't even want him now in a trade down. WCS would be a great pick a year or two from now, when the Knicks could have a top 5 and need an energetic stretch 4 as 6th man or for a change of pace, but he literally does not have enough sand in his pants to ever defend the low post and he probably won't be able to back anyone down on offense any time soon.
The Knicks need to get a building block - a long term solution to 1,2,3,4 or 5 at pick 4. If they get one of the guards we should party like it's 1973. Or if one of the two real bigs somehow falls to them - likewise. But they can't get someone who can't start, and that rules out WCS and probably Winslow because they can't play Carmello at the 4 without an outstanding 5, which they're just not gonna barring a draft day miracle.

I hear ys' Phil.
That said, if they can trade down, get another viable asset in that trade, I am all fine with drafting WC Stein. The word out there is that he did quite a few excellent things at his workout that opened eyes, especially on the offensive end. Everyone already knew about his skills on the defensive end.
BTW - if WCS hits the weight-room, he will be just as strong as Tyson Chandler.
I would trust Jackon on Winslow, but beyond no trade and no passing on more talented players for system players.
I also want an offensive player, not Chandler 2.

Why trade down when they can get a piece at 4 and then use their trade exceptions to trade back into the first round?
If they can trade back into the first round with their TE, that would be amazing.
Really, I wouldn't even be mad if they drafted Kristaps Porzingis. I really like him.
I don't know what he is. He didn't create stats in a lesser league and is phyically weak. I want one of the guards.
He is completely boom/bust. I watched the video. When no one is guarding him his shooting is awesome, great range, nice arc, but reed thin.

I don't think Porzingis is boom / bust... He's not a darko where he's only been seen in workouts -- dude was youngest player in a league that is only behind the NBA and he played and excelled in the limited minutes there.. Hes not as raw as people think, he actually is fluent in English and is a gym rat.
I am just saying I would be fine if we got muiday / Russell / Porzingis ..... I doubt JO or KAT fall to us and anyone else I wouldn't want.
One rumor I did hear was Sac trading us 6 + McLemore for 4 and if that's true, I'm all over that
How can you know what he is? Bargnani was supposed to be a star. We don't know how big he will become in terms of girth. It's really about projection.
And there is other thing we are told the Knicks want a player who can complement Melo NOW. I think that's idiotic, but if they stick to it, that will likely not lead to securing the most potential upside.
But if they really had a conviction about Porzi at 4, it would not be the worst option.
I agree that Porzingis has a lot of potential and projection but he's also shown that he can play with guys 5+ years his senior. Bargs/Darko/Tskitshivili didn't prove that, all they did was wow teams in workouts -- he's already like 7'1 / 7'2 and hopefully fills out some --- I don't know if I'd take him over Mudiay / Russell but I wouldn't be upset if they did.
Here's a good article on him: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/meet-the-euro-prodigy-who-seems-unlike-the-flops-who-came-before-him-193427860.html
You know I'm a "knows how to play" over a "potential" guy every time. So to me, it would matter how much he knows how to play.
11ppg 4rpg 2apg 1bpg in 21mpg is pretty damn good for an 18 year old in the ACB league.
If he came out next year, I think he'd easily be #1 overall.
This could be very bad:

Because if you trade down, besides exchanging draft picks, you can get a piece that can help right now, and already is experienced somewhat, compared to these 19 year old kids that will take time to mature.
Using the trade exceptions to get additional picks is something they should aggressively pursue regardless if they trade the #4 pick or not. It should be a separate issue, IMO.
I think it really depends on how far back they trade -- the rumor I heard of #6 + McLemore for #4 is great -- I would hate for them to trade back into the teens just to gain additional picks -- I think there are players that can come in and contribute right away.
Also, if we trade back I would love Willie Callie-Stein -- It would allow us to play Melo @ 4 and play small ball since he can guard 1-5 and he's 7-1, which would give us a great advantage in that regard.
Billy;
I am all in agreement with you. Trade down, get someone good back, and draft WCS. Works for me.
Also, I think drafting WCS eliminates us from signing Greg Monroe -- please no Monroe!
The NBA is about high end talent. They have one aging/injured piece. I would stay at 4 and go BPA.
