Yanks Win

So CC is back to being the ACE, well at least for this weekend.  Seriously, these last two starts, and especially this one, have been encouraging.  Maybe the CC can pitch with reduced stuff crowd is right.   Anyway, the formula of getting a good start, timely homers from old guys, and knock out relief is back online.  Let's see how long they can keep it going.    More bats would really help.

Great to see CC step up.

It's also great to see A-Rod with power to right field. That is usually a sign that he's locked in, adjusting expectations for age, of course.

More signs of life from Beltran. Like I said, end of May should give us a pretty good idea of what he is or isn't at this point.

Nice to see CC rebound. If he can even be league average, I'll take it at this point. Need to find some other arms to get the pressure off Miller and Betances. Pitch Shreve in bigger spots to start.

Lindgren is ready and being wasted in AAA.

As I've said before, I think Carpenter deserves a longer leash than the others because of his numbers in Atlanta. If Lindgren has nothing left to prove in Triple-A, he needs to be in the Bronx.

Lindgren needs to find some of the velo he's lost this year. His slider is great for AAA but more advanced hitters will lay off.

Not what I heard when I asked them about his velo. Also, do you remember Sparky Lyle?

I do but that was 30 years ago.We will see.

I think he has a good chance to be effective, but I just want to know why it's declined

Crap up, Mitchell. The short-term mentality I hate so much continues

Can Capuano be sent down? If not, they likely want to keep him as an asset for as long as possible given the fragility of the rotation.

Still, I chuckle at the Yankees giving $5M to this guy but not having the stomach to get into a bidding war with the Sox for Moncada.

I think it's time to give Refsnyder a shot with Drew coming in for defense late in the game.

He needs to play everyday and not ride the bench 3 games a week.

Anon, that's the attitude they need to be taking with Pirela. Problem is, with the way Girardi is dividing the playing time, it's likely causing Pirela to press every time he does get put into the lineup. They either need to cut Drew entirely or make it clear to Joe that he's nothing more than a utility man at this point.

Ellsbury and Gardner are in a bit of a slump, which is highlighting the lack of production from the bottom half of the lineup.

You have to have had a lobotomy not to see this coming

Lindgren has been 91-94 in all but two outings according to the Yankees who get the truest data. He's also dominated.

Bring him up; let Mitchell start. I don't care which of the three ( or is it four) stooges is responsible, or all of them, the illusory safety of veteran-ness has to stop if this team is ever going to be more than a pretender

Would the Yankees start Syndergaard over Capuano?

I really don't know.

At 1:36 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Whitley will undergo TJS, so that's one less bit of depth.

Lawyer, that likely depends on how many options Syndergaard has left. :)

At 2:20 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

Unlike Tanaka, Whitley doesn't have, or wont soon have, hundred million in the bank, so certainty has its benefits here.

Mike, exactly, it should be a be a no-brainer, but it isn't.

LINJ, my comment was more tongue-in-cheek than anything, as I doubt Capuano would stand in the way of a top-tier arm like Syndergaard slotting into the rotation. Their problem is more paying guys like Capuano too much when they have guys like Mitchell in the minors who could do it for cheap.

At 3:15 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

I knew that, Mike, and I get that Syndergaard is more ML ready and probably has a higher ceiling than Mitchell, but I'm not sure that would be enough.

When you set $10m on fire for Capuano and Drew, something is seriously wrong with the decision-making process, and moves like that are the primary impetus for my realism/negativity.

Moncada set to make his minor league debut today. Good thing the Yankees are getting good production from third so far; otherwise, I'd still be pissed.

Time to call him up.

The right attitude to have. Do your thing and let the other stuff sort it out. If he gets a shot and maintains his current mental approach, I think he'll have success.

It's a good article about Refs, and I seriously hope he gets an extended chance soon, but to refer to a Korean adopttee as a Seoul, South Korea native, shows a lack of understanding.

I thought it was interesting that Kay, who is an unabashed Yankee shill, was killing Drew and Grego's offense, saying they can't live their offense much longer.

As I have said, Grego needs to start this season (unless he is included in a trade), but if he as bad as he looks offensively (and I mean his swing not his stats), he isn't a starter long-term.

Here's an article on both Judge and Heathcott, with some good quotes from several people, including Cashman. Heathcott's in a slump lately, but he seems to have found something so far this season.

It's time to do more development on the ML level. If they can live with Grego's bat, and assorted veteran terribleness they can live their drafted players' learning curves, be it on offense or defense.

Good article on Refs. He seems to have his head on straight and the fielding from a statistical standpoint is much better (2 E's in last 20 games as opposed to 7 in 1st 14). Has MBN or anyone else seen him recently?

LINJ I hear you about the "native of Seoul" line but somehow it wouldn't bother me so much to hear my Chinese-born kids described as "natives of China." I've heard alot dumber things said and I don't think this was malicious, just a bit thoughtless. Anyhow you know I'm rooting for Refs just like you, especially since my son has been playing alot of 2B in LL. :-)

Stot;

No, I have not seen Scranton play the past few. I will be in New England after Memorial Day, and if the schedule works out for me, I will try to get to the Tuesday night game of Scranton at Pawtucket. Wednesday night would be easier, but Wednesday is a day game.

Otherwise, I have a client in Buffalo, and Scranton visits there the 2nd week of June. Maybe I can work something out..........

My travel to the Scranton area does not coincide with any Scranton home dates for a while, as of now.

I do hope and expect to get some Trenton games in though. The travel to Trenton is not too bad, and I can get home at a decent hour - as long as they don't go 15 innings or so.
