Yanks Stuff
Luis Severino will make his 2015 regular season debut for the Thunder in a few hours. Let's hope he gets off to a great start and just cruises into the bigs this season. For that to happen, he probably has to perfect his speed changing and shape changing slider, once he does that he'll be nigh on unhittable most starts.
As for the small sample theater we've observed from the big club so far, it can only be said with some certainty that we're gonna go through a ton of pitchers again this year. It's disturbing that Matt Tracy, who was a possible sleeper got the one/done/DFA treatment. It sickens me to some degree that they spend good money bringing these players along only to turn them into cannon fodder. It's also hard to believe that Slade Heathcott has not been re-added to the 40 - because in the short going, Beltran looks shot.

I feel bad for Tracy. I don't see the need yet to put Slade on the 40 man yet?
As much as I want to see the kids, I really hope they don't rush Severino before his slider is ready. I always felt they did that with Wang, and I can't help but wonder how much better Wang would have been with a plus slider that he showed glimpses of.
Rushing hasn't been the biggest problem, Mike.
The problem has been not showing a similar commitment to kids on the ML level that they show to washed up veterans. It's as if they think that these veterans are going to magically find the fountain of youth.
If this was a publicly traded company they would be ripe for a hostile takeover because there is a lot of value to be unlocked (granted, one could call the field value intangible, but the point remains).
Hal, Cashman, and Levine sound like Baghdad Bob every time they open their mouths, prattling about WS or some shit.
I fear that this will get worse before it gets better.
If it does, I hope that it isn't at the cost of prospects.
"Rushed" was probably the wrong word. "Under-developer" is a more accurate description now that I think about it. Whether it was Wang's slider, Hughes's changeup or Cano's lack of plate discipline (which thankfully he eventually grew into), I feel more could have been done to develop them considering what we got when they got to the majors.
I want them to bring Refsnyder up now because I don't think this team is a contender, but I'd have no problem delaying his call-up so his defense could improve if it had an actual shot at a World Series title. But as Phil mentioned before, why isn't someone like Willie Randolph on the payroll teaching Refsnyder how to field? (And don't even get me started on the utter stupidity of moving him back to the OF temporarily last season. It's like Joba to the pen — development gets sacrificed so the team can WIN NOW!)
I completely agree with the lack of commitment to the younger players, BTW. Remember Jose Ramirez getting shipped back to SWB after getting hit hard following like a 10-day absence from the mound? Remember Pirela never getting called up at all? Thank God Betances was out of options and impressed right away, because otherwise, he'd have never become the set-up man.
Hal/Levine/Cash have lost me.
Hopefully, they didn't use up all of their weekly O last night... Mike's giving up lots of doubles so far.
Weird game. Probably see a lot of that.
Betances needs to stop sucking. Also, they probably went too long with Pineda (98 pitches).
Trenton got rained out so still no Severino.
Definitely went too long with Mike
So as I said before, Murphy needs to be getting at-bats.
OT, but are the Knicks fucking nuts?
Seriously, this such idiocy
Tracy will hopefully clear his DFA assignment, and then be sent back to Scranton, or wherever they need him when he returns. I doubt anyone will claim him. This stuff happens all the time. Teams seem to have an unwritten rule of rarely claiming other teams DFA guys when it involves Minor League players.
