The Yanks just DFA'd Eury Perez so they could have room on the 40 for Stephen Drew. This was one of their "rearranging deck chairs" sort of moves. When's Moncada getting cleared? Zzzz.
If the Yankees do indeed hold onto their picks (as it appears they will) and end up signing Moncada, then coupled with the player development changes I will actually be cautiously optimistic about the future for a chance.
If they sign Moncada, so will I, at least guardedly.
I can even accept it, however reluctantly, if they sign Scherzer too, because in-season injuries to the pitching staff (which are a pretty high probability) could result in more damage than the pick.
At the end of the day, we’re talking about a high contact/low strikeout hitter who can spray the ball into gaps, has some speed, and has enough over-the-fence pop to be dangerous in Yankee Stadium. That sounds an awful lot like Rob Refsnyder, who a growing number of Yankee fans are building up into the next great Yankee player before he’s even made his debut, so why is he getting all the hype and love and Didi getting overlooked?
I haven't heard anyone suggest that Refs will be "great," but I think there is an obvious answer.
1) Refs is younger, and hasn't had to be sent back down the the mL after a chance; 2) Refs, unlike Didi, is not assured an extended chance this season, and some fans wish that he would be given that same chance; 3) They didn't give up a player for him,, especially one at a position of need to a GM that is one of the best in MLB; 4) Fans like homegrown players. There isn't anything wrong with that.
There's much hyperbole coming from the Refsnyder detractors, with these notions that we think he's the "next great Yankee."
The fact is, he's still in the system, and he doesn't have anything left to prove offensively in the minors. Let him come up and see what they have. If he fails, oh well, you gave him a shot, which was the reasonable thing to do. If he succeeds, then you've got a homegrown Yankee who's cost-controlled for a few years.

Me too and with that first pick Ill select Kyle Cody RHP.
I think this is a reasonable piece about possible upside for Gregorious, but when he says:

If Cashman had traded for Refs, some of the same people who now think prospect huggers overrate him would be saying how great he is.
For some people, sadly, being a Yankee fan over the last ten years means thinking the team doesn't need homegrown players.
I'm in the middle of the road with Ref's . His bat IMO is more then ready The Glove is not.Lets see where we are after ST.
That's why I like him. The offense has been so bad that I discount defense.
Wouldn't it be ironic if the hated and ridiculed Alex Rodriguez once again became the focal point of this offense.
He covered up a lot of the offensive decline for several seasons.
I think it's unlikely, but I wouldn't rule it out.
A-Rod is likely cooked and I'm not expecting anything out of him this season, unless he starts taking PEDs again.
The way they seem to be going out of their way to dis him not that he doesn't deserve it ,I will be surprised if even makes it to NY in April.
I am going to go out on a limb and predict that Alex will have a better year than Tex if given a chance
I not saying he couldn't i just get the feeling he's going to get the chance
Not going to get the chance Sory
$60 million is a lot of money even to very rich people so we'll see
