Yanks Acquire Chris Martin for Cash Considerations

When in doubt, acquire another reliever.   Now this is just ridiculous.  They have a bunch of relievers ready for the farm, but they keep signing, trading for and now buying more relievers.   Btw, this is another notably tall guy for our pitching staff.   I wonder if Lindgren or Rumbelow will even get a shot now.

This perfectly fits the current and diminished version of Cashman. It's as if he is bullpen-Tourettes.

The only time he will risk something for young upside is if it fits a current need.

So that's Gregorious and Eovaldi.

Maybe Moncada will be an exception.

I think they have to get Moncada and know it. They are now acting wisely on the minor league level (with the exception of the Lopez whiff) and ponderously on the major league level.

We have to hope that they see something in all of these arms they're bringing in.

Btw, they're going to have to remove someone from the 40 to make this move.

Phil;

I think they also have to remove someone when Drew becomes official. One guy will be that OF - Eury P(?). The other might be the kid they got from the Mets?

Not sure. They might be trying to trade Austin Romine or something,

yeah, they dumped Gonzalez German for Martin.

Norton to be Riverdogs PC. Just for the record I've seen Martin pitch and he can embarrass a RH hitter . He's a good ROGGY lol

LINJ hit the nail on the head in a previous thread: "Until and unless kids get an extended opportunity at the ML level, the future is illusory."

If all these arms cost Lindgren a shot, then shame on Cashman.

Rumbelow, too.

We have held back position players for sure but last year we used 13 different starters and countless bullpen arms.. socking up on pitchers never hurts and He was obtained by CC not a big deal IMO

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said the two-man approach to what used to be a one-man job is the next big thing in baseball: "It’s becoming a trend in the game," he said. "Every single candidate we spoke with either had a number two or felt the game has evolved to the point where you need one. You can’t be in two places at one time, so this way you can have one coach working with guys on the field and the other working in the cage."

Then how about 2 GMs, with one not a Randy.

I'm confused, what's the problem here? People do realize that bullpen arms are extremely volatile and injuries occur, right?

As for as Yoan Lopez is concerned, 16.5mil seems rather extreme for a guy who is projected as a RP. It's Moncada or bust

It's not extreme when you basically print money, have a lot of fragile ML pitchers under contract, and are limited on IFA signings going forward.

Money, not talent evaluation and development, is their strength. So it makes sense to exploit it.

As for relievers, if they hadn't just traded Banuelos' upside for even more relievers than maybe this makes sense.

In fact, that you can get relievers so easily offers support for the idea that trading a young pitcher with upside for relievers is a really dumb risk/reward proposition.

Then factor in a manager who seems to get aroused by changing relief pitcher based on the weather, and you are creating a potential mess.

The Banuelos situation isn't exactly trading a guy with upside. At this point the Braves are praying he ever gets back to where he was. He hasn't been a reliable strike thrower in the year leading up to the injury or since.

Also, he was acquired by a team that has some ex Yankee execs in the FO, and they probably still like him more than most.

Baneulos was rated the Braves 10th best prospect. That along indicates potential upside.

Does not argue on the side of what he's done over the last three years. That's a brainless analysis by whoever wrote it.

if the braves 10th best prospect is manny banuelos, that's pretty sad.

guy has extreme inning restrictions and would take at least another 2 years before he could even throw 180ip.

Add in the fact that his stuff was extremely diminished when I saw him twice, he's a clear example of why there are no sure things as pitching prospects.

Also, Diamondbacks are stupid to spend that $ on Yoan Lopez. They had the highest IFA pool next year and now they are limited because of this. They also think Pete O'Brien is an everyday catcher. That is laugh out loud funny.

I think Manny was also out of option, though he might have gotten another one because of his injury and rehab.
