Yanks Pass on Another Cuban
So, Yoan Lopez didn't end up signing with the Yanks or the Sox. Instead, he went to the Diamondbacks for 8.25M. Sort of amazing that the Yanks can find 5M for Capuano or Drew, but can't go higher for a high upside pitching prospect. Right now, the Yanks have about 2 starting pitchers at High A or higher to get excited about, Severino and Clarkin. Lopez would have given them a third. Now they'll have to wait 2 years to look for commensurate pitching in IFA. Of course, if they're as bad as they could be this year, they might be able to find an equivalent arm at the top of the draft, next year. Truly ponderous.

Cashman told us everything we need to know. They don't want the perfect beast. They want a predictable team that competes at the margins.
But they got Chris Martin!
The only hope this team has of being a beast — no such thing as a "perfect beast" IMO — is developing players. We'll see if the restructuring makes a difference and if the latest wave of prospects can actually finish developing. (Signing Drew to play second instead of giving the kids a chance isn't helping matters.)
I think Mike K. hit the nail on the head. The future is all over the development of the kids in the system. Denbo, Patterson and company have their hands full now.
Absolutely, but if they get Moncada, the system could take a big jump.
It will also help if the IFA kids who are coming over this year kick ass.
Until and unless kids get an extended opportunity at the ML level, the future is illusory.
