Tampa Yanks Name Their Staff
Okay, even more coaching changes. As you remember from last week, most of this past year's Tampa staff was promoted to Trenton. The new manager is Dave Bialas, who's new to the operation. He spent most of his minor league coaching career managing with the Cards and Braves.
Tommy Phelps is the new Tampa PC. He'd actually been getting good reviews in Trenton, after having been a pitcher in the Yankee system back in the day.
Tommy Slater is the hitting coach. He'd been one of the roving hitting coaches, but had also been a manager in rookie ball for the Yanks a few years ago.
And JD Closser will return as infield coach.
So the model was 1 new guy, 1 demoted guy, 1 organizational reassignment and 1 holdover. Those concerned with whether or not the Yanks share their development concerns are getting more and more evidence.

If Franklin is now not the Pulaski manager any word on who is ?I was told the Yanks didn't retain the current GM and it didn't go over well in baseball circles.
I guess we'll find out in the coming days. Whole lotta shakin goin' on in the organization.
And I don't understand your second statement.
I was informed the Mariners and Jays were previously in Pulaski and retained the same GM. I guess it was presumed the Yanks would follow suit but it wasn't to be which turned out be an unpopular move. Nothing more then that.
Minor league GM's don't do a hell of a lot organizationally. Yanks probably put in one of their own. Is it an O and O, now?
What influence did Gil Patterson have in the placement of pitching coaches? Is it a coincidence that Clark in is expected to start the year in Tampa?
I don't know. Clarkin hasn't worked with Phelps before. And I don't know how long Ian will be in High A before they move him up.
Oh and I'm sure Gil Patterson had a big say in all matters pitching at the meetings that have been going on.
K9 is Norton staying in SI ?
Yankyfan, just to be clear, my last post in the "3 coaches" thread was directed at Anon, not you. :-)
All is good Mike
Not sure where Tim Norton is going. He's highly regarded. Could be any of the remaining teams.
Yoan Lopez signed with the Dbacks for 8.2mil
Disappointed we didn't sign him but would rather save our resources for Moncada
Thanks Kale for the info. Here's some positive news about Ty Hensley throwing post-injury.
