Yanks Acquiring Nate Eovaldi for Martin Prado?
Jack Curry, whom I respect, just tweeted that the Yanks are on the verge of trading Martin Prado to the Miami Marlins for RHP Nate Eovaldi, who's 24, but did lead the NL in hits surrendered last year. He's not a big K guy, so he must be a big ground ball guy or I can't see the Yankees' interest. Their analytics group carries a big say these days.
Meanwhile, this opens the door for Rob Refsnyder or Jose Pirela to become the new 2B for the Yanks. Let's hope they can straighten out Eovaldi like they did McCarthy. Yanks most likely saved money if this is the final shape of the deal.
UPDATE: The deal is bigger than this with Phelps also going to the Marlins and two more players coming to the Yankees.
UPDATE 2: The other two players are reportedly 1B Garrett Jones and minor league RHP Domingo German. Domingo was 21 in the Sally League and seems a little slight if he's height of 6'2" and weight of 175 still holds. He was a less than a K per inning guy, too.
Btw, Eovaldi is a very hard thrower who's head trouble getting called strikes and doesn't always have a reliable out pitch, though his slider is often plus.

Phil are you a fan of this move?
Yes, Prado was blocking kids.
Agreed, to me it seems like while many are complaining, I am sensing a rebuild of sorts? Esp with 2 draft picks... The analytics dept was right on McCarthy, so I will give them the benefit on this one. Now if we could some how rid us of A-Rod's contract would be even more optimal.
Rumors that the Yanks might be after Asdrubal Cabrera for 2B/SS insurance.
This is the first move the Yankees have made recently (in like years) that I like. I would have preferred to pair Eovaldi with Greene and sign Drew or Cabrera for SS, but whatever.
I hope Cabrera doesn't block Refs/Pirela.
I'm not sure that they are even after him. They've signed some AAA utility guys lately, and could use one of them in that role.

Yanks high on eovaldi and German. Plan to try refsnyder at 2B (pirela another option). G Jones is $ offset/backup

I wouldn't talk to him, but people in power seem to, so...
Dave Cameron at Fangraphs likes the deal for the Yanks more than the Marlins.

NL advance scout on Eovaldi: "He has No. 2 starter stuff, throws 98, but is very immature. His response to any trouble is to throw harder.''
I'm a big fan of Eovaldi -- guy throws hard and holds his velocity deep into games -- Reminds me of Garret Richards -- Glad to see them get value for Prado.
Fangrapsh says Garret Richards, too, and that the Yanks should take away his changeup. That's probbly what analytics saw.
I think Scherzer was 24 when he got shipped from AZ to DET. Heat is a good upside to bet on.
