Keep in mind that they could have had him at a discount before this season were it not for that stupid non-negotiation rule. At least they broke that with Gardner.
I know, they're penny wise and pound foolish.
Since reports are that he's going to decline, and they have to know that, and they didn't try to extend him, I don't think this means that they want to keep him.
Per the NY Daily News, it doesn't appear the Yankees will pursue any of the big-name pitching free agents. Perhaps Cashman has learned his lesson?

At least six teams already have interest in the right-hander, which is not surprising. Big market contenders like the Tigers, Dodgers, and Nationals all need help in the late innings.
Seems LINJ is right. Doesn't look like they want to keep him all that badly.
