Cuban INF Yoan Moncada Has Established Residency in Guatemala

Young Cuban switch-hitting 2B/SS Yoan Moncada has established residence in Guatemala and is petitioning MLB for FA and planning a showcase.   This is probably the highest upside Cuban to come over in quite some time, better than of the OF's.   The Yanks have to look very seriously about biting the bullet and making him a building block.   This will only be possible if he is granted his free agency before June 15, 2015 at which point their 2 year penalty on IFA deals begins.

What are the chances that MLB won't drag it out to shaft the Yanks? When the Yanks went all-out last year in IFA, it must have come across as direct defiance of MLB's "guidelines", so I wouldn't be surprised if MLB tried to get even.

They'd also be shafting the player and any franchise he chooses by holding him out for the first two months, at least, of next season. He's ready now, so this should be orderly.

Until they sign a big Cuban, I am going to think they aren't going to sign a big Cuban.

If there is any big Cuban they should sign, it's this guy, if the scouting reports are any indication.

I think part of that question is, compared to what?

So in terms of the potential cost/benefit value (which includes age), there have been a several that would have been better than the 30+ year old MLB veterans they just can't get enough of.

As I have said before, young, dynamic offensive players is where teams should focus their assets, because pitching is too fragile to depend on.

The failure to do so over the last 10 years is what has made this team both mediocre and boring.
