Yanks Adding Appy League Team
The Yanks today did what I was told they'd do last year and added and Appalachian League team for summer of `15. I'm not sure if this means they will go back to 1 GCL team, or whether it means they are just adding a team. Developmentally, it will supposedly be 1/2 step up from the GCL. That will probably mean drafted college players as well as preps from past drafts who haven't advanced to the GCL yet. Chris Breen types, etc. Of course, they'll need really good teaching coaches, so let's hope they get the right people in there.
This will be especially good if they are keeping two GCL teams, because they're going to have a sea of players coming over in the next year or so, and the GCL teams were becoming the landing spot for too many collegiate players. So good move, especially if if allows the GCL to be for teens going forward.

Pulasi Yankees !!!!
Road trip. Well, probably not, but maybe.
Thompson and Long May make this one of the worst coaching staffs I have ever seen.
Rothschild makes up for it to a certain extent.
I personally think hitting coaches' impact is overstated, both if the team hits well and if it doesn't.
He can't mitigate the pitching injuries that keep occurring on Girardi's watch, and the Yankees have had plenty of them too:

From the 2006 Marlins staff, Anibal Sanchez needed surgery in June for a torn labrum, Josh Johnson went for Tommy John surgery earlier this month, Ricky Nolasco has missed most of the year with elbow inflammation, and Scott Olsen and Dontrelle Willis have performed far worse this year than last year.
“I will never jeopardize a career for a game or myself,” Girardi insisted. “I had my [playing] career. I would never take anyone’s career away from them.”
The data shows Girardi never used a Marlins starter on short rest or asked anyone to exceed 130 pitches. But there are points of concern. Johnson was used after an 82-minute rain delay at Shea last September, but so was Oliver Perez. Nevertheless, last month before Johnson’s surgery, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria lobbed more public criticism at Girardi for that decision.
The Marlins were fringe contenders in September, yet Sanchez – already beyond his career pro high and with a history of shoulder problems – logged an MLB-rookie-high 43 innings in the month (and threw a no-hitter). Willis was viewed as the veteran horse, logging more than 110 pitches 18 times and 115 or more in seven straight starts leading into the All-Star Game. But he was just 24 and heavy workloads prior to age 25 are often considered a long-term concern.
This season is over. They have already wasted valuable playing time that could be used to develop kids. They did the same thing last year and it's a big reason why they are a franchise in decline.
But even if they want to pretend, Mitchell gives them a better chance to win than Capuano.
I agree. Mitchell should have been up a while back, as should Roller and Pirela for the bench, just to see if they had anything in those guys. If you want to delay Refsnyder's service clock, fine, but don't give us the ridiculous "40-man" excuse.
I'm hoping that, with the last of the Core Five being retired, maybe the front office will finally stop trying to milk them for another ring and rebuild.
Yasmani Tomas was cleared by OFAC --- He should be a FA shortly -- We need to go after him.
Hopefully Mocada turns up somewhere soon!
Mike
Hal seems like the path of least friction. That's why he can't be bothered looking for a GM who has proven that he can develop talent, and it's probably why he won't order a different approach.
Bring back Hank! :)
I'd rather not bring back Hank, as he was the supposed mastermind behind the A-Rod deal.
New ownership would be great, but there's always the unknown factor you have to consider (I.E. ending up with someone even worse). This team needs to rebuild and let some of the bad contracts expire. Hopefully, Jeter's retirement will leave ownership a little more open to the idea.
Phil, was it you who said Cashman proposed a rebuild after A-Rod originally opted out and was rebuffed?
Billy,
Moncada is a must if he's available, IMO. Tomas has power, but I read a report questioning his plate approach. Not someone I'd go balls to the walls for.
That's not true. The NYT documented that it was both. But at least he cares.
They didn't need to rebuild when A-Rod opted out in 2009.
Anyway, the Steinbrenners are staying for now.
So why not see if a more competent GM can operate more effectively under them?
Oh yeah, because they want someone they can control.
Beltran scratched for elbow soreness.
A textbook case of incompetence from the time of signing, through the injury, until now.
I can't believe that Hal or Levine forced their baseball people to start this guy. If it was Girardi, then Cashman should've overruled him. This In a nutshell is why this franchise has been in decline.
Are you referring to Capuano? Then yeah, that's it in a nutshell. Mitchell has been decent in AAA this season, but he hasn't pitched since Aug. 30, so I'm wondering if he's on the DL?
Yes.
And I would start almost anyone in the organization over Capuano in. "Big Game."
I would totes pursue Kang this offseason:
