Giants Lose: Offense Still Broken and Defense is Too

What an awful showing.   Apparently having a game plan didn't help the new offense at all.   Eli still looked jumpy and turnover prone.   Will Beatty looked awful as did John Jerry.    Receivers didn't know what to do or when they were hot.  We couldn't run and didn't commit too much to trying.   This will be the 4th year in a row where we have lost the opener.

And the Defense gave up 35 points.  And that was even though they were pretty good against the run.   They had no pass rush to speak of and no coverage.   DRC kept handing receivers off to safeties that weren't there.   And we're paying him what?   I've felt that Fewell should be gone for a long time.   Still do.

Nothing encouraging about this one.

Justin Pugh had a horrible game tonight. Not good to see him play this poor

Going to be a long year... No line, no wr's...Eli has to stop with the careless throws. if he sees a guy is not running the route throw it away not to a pre-determined spot, DRC was terrible

I'm not giving up yet, but if this is what the team is, they need to clean house from the top to the bottom. Anything less would be unacceptable.

I heard an interview with Gilbride a few weeks back in which he pointed out how much more highly ranked the offense has been than the defense during most of the last few years. I think it was time for a change, but why is Fewell still here?

Kennard pulled a hamstring. Do most teams pull this many?

Honestly, as much as I hated Gilbride and his predictable play calling, Fewell is and has been atrocious at his job. Bring me back Spags or anyone.

Can we just hire Bill Cowher already?

I don't like Bill Cowher.

Not a Giants fan here, so maybe I am completely wrong, but...What is the difference from what I saw last night vs. what I saw last season? Inconsistent "D play overall, poor blocking up from on offense, inconsistent running game, and a QB under pressure, and not on the same page as the receivers?

I don't love Cowher either, and again, it's too early to talk about Coughlin's job (given that they kept him for this season), but he has been here too long, and any talk of his age is a distraction from that. It would be true if he was 15 years younger. And his coordinator choices from the beginning have been extremely poor, with the Spagnola exception.

But really, Reese/Ross have not drafted nearly as well as Accorsi/Reese, and that may be the primary problem.

From NJ.com

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said before the contest that Moore would have to earn his playing time. Instead, he appears to have lost it, even though he was unsure how much the limited number of snaps had to do with the early missed sack. Defensive end Robert Ayers came on the field ahead of Moore when Jason Pierre-Paul left for a series with an injured neck. Ayers played a total of 34 defensive snaps in the contest.

Yet veterans get to suck for a long time.

More Fewell follies?
Coughlin said today that, despite the play, Moore should have actually had more reps. When asked why he didn’t, Coughlin responded, “That’s a good question. We’ll have to take that to the defense.”
