Yanks Win 2-1

Phew.  Tanaka and the A pen got the job done today, but it was tough.   Like the Yanks of old, the A's incessantly grind at the plate.   That's how they were able to get Tanaka out of there on an elevate pitch count after 6.   Of course, after giving up a first inning homer to Jaso, Tanaka shut the door, even though they were grinding him.    Betances followed him for the 7th, and he, too, lowered his ERA, but had to work around a base runner.   Warren pitched into and out of trouble in the 8th, which saw his 4 seamer get up to 96 and 97.  Adrenalin?   DRob got the save in the ninth by stranding a guy on third and striking out the last batter.

So we got great pitching today against a team that was digging in and grinding.

The Yankee offense was not nearly as tough as the pitching staff or the A's lineup -- even though they scored 2 to Oakland's 1.    Jeter singled in the first, then Ellsbury hit what was initially called a two run homer.   Review switched it to a one out double, and Tex and Beltran couldn't get them home.

In the second, we saw a rare site, McAnn singled then went to second on an error.    Soriano then drove him in.

It was shocking.  Sori had a double later, so he may be coming around.

In the third, Gardy homered, and that was it for Yankee scoring on the day.

The Yanks didn't grind at all, and I think the A's finally lifted Pomeranz because he was bored.  Seriously.  His pitch count was modest compared to the grinding the A's were doing to our staff.

Still, we got the win to stay afloat.   Back with more draft stuff in a bit.

Exactly, the construction of the A's lineup shows the degree to which the Yankees have failed in constructing their lineup. It's nauseating, but hey, the smarts just aren't there anymore.

Fortunately, Tanaka is awesome. Stuff, location, sequencing, and pitchabiity.

I just hope that Girardi doesn't bury Ramirez when Kelley gets back. He probably won't have a chance to because the rest of the starters are out of the game so early.

Seemed like Girardi has decided to like Ramirez. He had positives to say about him after his outing.
