Yanks: Whitley Gets a Win

It was starting to look like David Robertson hated Chase Whitley.   On the verge of his first win, which he would have gotten last time had DRob not imploded, and with two out tonight, DRob gave up a double, then a walk!   Then started the next guy 0-1, before finally shutting the door for Whitley's first big league win.

Congrats, Chase.  And he pitched heroically, throwing 7 innings of 2 run ball, before giving way to Dellin Betances in the 8th.   So tonight's victory was assembled by three former Yankee draft picks, keeping with today's theme.   Chase may actually be a find.   Btw.  Here's why I think that, first, he has three pitches he can mix and it feels like he's understanding how to add and subtract from all of them.  Next, the change is an out pitch when he has plus location, but the slider is playing up, too.  Finally, he's throwing too many balls,  but other than that he's being efficient. I think he's being a little too fine and also trying to see if he can expand.  But, anyway, he's avoided meltdowns, so his poise is sort of plus.   I think we might have piece of the short term puzzle, at least.  If he gets more efficient with his pitch counts, who knows?

The offense stopped at 4 again, and they get no credit for that.  Let's go, Yankees!

It would be more than a little ironic if an organization that has turned every starter they have failed to develop into a reliever, finally developed a starter by converting a reliever.
