Yanks: Cervelli Up/Murphy Down

So the Yanks have once again exchanged younger and better for older and less good.    This is a problem with the franchise, they bind themselves to so many guys and then they are unwilling to improve on them till the whole thing breaks.  This is actually a larger issue for our country as well, but the Yanks should be smarter.   Cervelli should have been traded in the offseason or in ST.   They shouldn't be screwing with Murphy's ascension.  And the truth is, Muprhy's been better than McCann this year, too.  So what we now have is our best MLB catcher in AAA and then our second and third - not sure of the order - best MLB catchers with the big club.  Suboptimal.

Many coaches would argue that you can't lose your position on the depth chart due to injury. That's likely what's happening here.

That said, you're correct that Murphy needs to be on the roster and Cervelli should be traded.

If Miller Huggins had applied that shitheaded rule to Wally Pipp, there might never have been a Lou Gehrig.

They aren't changing owners, so everyone else needs to go.

Maybe a truly competent GM could convince Hal of the mertis of a bottom-up strategy.
