Melo "Leaning" Toward Leaving the Knicks
Woj has reported that Carmelo Anthony is leaning toward leaving the Knicks. To me this means they are telling him they don't want to give him the max, so he's leaking that he's leaning toward leaving. Well, good luck getting paid if you do, Carmelo, because the Knicks should resist making any S&T deal unless it is remarkably favorable in terms of unprotected picks and young talent. It's his egoic need to get wined and dined that is driving this latest Melo-Drama and the Knicks should just check out and play extreme hardball on any S&T.

It would definitely have to be unprotected picks and young talent, but assuming it's true that the Bulls and Rockets are interested, that could provide leverage to the Knicks, and because of their pick-deficit, they might be interested in doing a sign and trade, as long as it didn't affect their 2015 cap space.
Alternatively, if they could move Chandler (the dumbest of Grunwald's serial dumb moves because it precluded a chance at Paul and amnestying Amar'e) as well as Melo, it might make sense to just let him walk and reap the cap space.
I think they will move Chandler. It's whether they trade Chadler and also S&T Melo.
They'd have to come about with multiple unprotected 1's.
I think multiple is possible because either of those teams will think they would be good for at least three or four years.
The sticking point could be protection. I suppose top 3 wouldn't be awful (it would be dumb for any team not to, but they could think that the chances are so remote that hedging isn't neecessary ) if they got something added as an offset.
I would love to see the Knicks try and get Nikola Mirotoc and Jimmy Butler from the Bulls in a S&T -- Mirotic would be the equivalent of a top 10 pick -- I also wonder if Lakers would S&T their #7 pick for Mell
It'll be interesting.
So on my way home tonight, I heard an ESPN radio commercial featuring SAS. He probably knows nothing, but whatever. He repeats that Melo and LeBron really want play together. If they both opt-in now, there is "a 95% chance" that they will end up on the same team in 2015. He doesn't know if it will be in Miamii or New York.
Thread worthy?

Despite recent reports that he will not return to New York, Carmelo Anthony had some encouraging things to say about the Knicks on Wednesday, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News (via Twitter). Asked about his meeting with team president Phil Jackson, Anthony said, βIt was a great meeting with Phil. It went well.β Anthony was also questioned about the addition of new head coach Derek Fisher, who was also part of the sit down. βI like what Phil is doing,β Anthony said.
I'm sort of waiting till they announce more coaches or something definite with player movement, and staying away from the Melo-Drama.
