Yanks: More Talent on the Way
Everybody seems to know about the huge IFA haul the Yanks are set to announce on July 2. But, because of players coming back from injuries, and a bunch of mothballed EST prospects, as well as a bunch of DSL graduates making their US debuts, the Yanks have a back log of talent -- some of it high end -- that we won't see until the GCL opens net week.
For example if Ty Hensley is ready to go, he could be in a rotation with Austin DeCarr. We haven't had that kind of pitching talent on a GCL team since we had Phil Hughes and Christian Garcia 10 years ago. And if Joey Maher is fit to go, that makes three high upside guys taking turns down there. There are also some big armed kids who'll be making their debuts from the DR, like Simon De La Rosa and Domingo Acevedo. Acevedo might be a Dominican version of Dellin Betances
On the hit side, Leonardo Molina, Jorge Mateo, Kendall Coleman, and Drew Bridges all have pop and Jorge and Bridges have good plate disc. Should be a really interesting group of hitters.
Because of the vast influx of college pitchers, with no places to play up the chain, we might see some of the recent draft picks filling out the rotations with the former preps and IFA's.
We could also see some of the college bats, if they don't have room at SI. Could be crowded, but fortunately they have two teams in the GCL. And all this starts next week. Good stuff, and it will be interesting to see how the sequestered guys have improved, or in the case of Hensley, if he's ready to roll.

Mara said at the time. "We finally put him in the game and he starts making plays. Sometimes you have to put young players in the game and give them a chance to fail or succeed. That's true not only with him but other guys, too."

Someone needs to make Hal understand what John Mara already knows. The future path of his franchise depends on him learning it.
As a businessman, he must understand that guys like Whitley and Phelps are a much better value than some of his big ticket pitchers. And seeing John Ryan Murphy do what he'd done, should show him there is a system, that's not as bad as people say, and it's ready to help.
I don't understand why Girardi uses Johnson at 3B and moves Solarte to 2B.
Prior to this season, Johnson had played 16 ML games at 3B, and Solarte has played well there.
I understand that Solarte's bat may ultimately only be credible as a 2B, but unless they include him in yet another win-now (oxymoron alert) trade, Refsynder should be the heir apparent there.
So really, it makes no sense to me.
Rumor was they are shopping Kelly Johnson and may want to show some versatility.
I can't imagine his value being any lower given his infrequent PT.
I think they'll move him. We could really use a Scott Gomez type trade.
