Yankees Open Against the Astros

The Yanks officially open the season in Houston a little later today.   Of course Yankee fans remember Houston best as the place that probably tampered with Pettitte and Clemens in `03, as well as the place where Chien Ming Wang's career wrecking injury took place because the NL still likes to watch pitchers hit.  Idiocy.   So, hopefully we'll get out of this set with our staff intact.

CC is going tonight as our titular ace.  I say that because by May he may be the 5th best starter on the team.  Really.  That said he pitched well with his reduced velocity in Spring Training, but we'll see what he can do with it in real games this year -- starting tonight.  Of course, he's never been much of an opening day guy, so don't bail if he stinks again tonight.

As you know, I prefer not to write about losses.  So this year, time permitting, I will try to write something about the minor league system in place of articles about Yankee losses, if I can stand the losses which might mount.

The pitching should be good, but I wonder if the infield can support it.  We'll start to learn the answers and see a bunch of the new guys in just a few more hours.   Let's hope for some Yankee Magic!
