Dan Girardi Update

Earlier today, it was rumored that Dan Girardi and the Rangers were just a half a million apart on a new deal.   While that would be ideal, pot stirrer Boomer Esiason has dropped Sami Vatanan's name.   Now, Sami, as you know if currently a Duck and is one of the better prospects in the NHL.  A few days ago, I saw a piece that said the Ducks were interested in Girardi.   Vatanan as part of a package for Girardi would certainly work, but if the Rangers and Girardi are really 500K apart, why not just keep him?  He has played really well after a tough start, and locking him up would scotch guard them a bit against the possible loss of Staal, whether because of health or free agency.    We'll have to wait and see.
