Rangers Win By Shoot Out
Something changed last night. It wasn't just that the Rangers came back from a 2-0 first period deficit and a 3-2 deficit to send the game into overtime and get the other point in a shootout. It wasn't that Hank suddenly started playing like Hank again - he didn't and wasn't great in regulation or in the shootout. No, after a miserable start, the Rangers finally started pushing back. Dorsett was chippy. John Moore got a roughing penalty and Dylan McIlrath did fine in his first fight against one of the league's best in McGrattan. Got a cut on his his cheekbone, but did not go down. Needs to keep filling out and learn how to fight a little better, but he was game and smiled on his way to the penalty box.
Stepan finally scored sort of soon after the Flames' second goal. Then Hagelin scored on a beautiful wrap around to tie it in the second. Then, after Hank gave up a softie, Kreider back handed a rebound to tie it again in regulation. Later, he was called for a high sticking as a Flame actually skated into his stick which he had raised to try to bat another rebound. So Kreider was in the box for the end of regulation and most of the overtime. It may be because of that penalty that AV didn't have him in the shootout.
Hopefully Vigneault starts figuring things out. Hank has to play better and the offense needs to score more. The kids scoring was a good sign, as was McIlrath getting through his first fight. I can't remember if the NHL trade moratorium starts today or on the 19th, but they don't play again till Wednesday, so if they are going to make a move before the Christmas moratorium, it will probably be by Wednesday.
The dressed 7 D's last night. Wonder how often we'll see that.
