Knicks Camp In Full Swing

Knicks camp is underway, and other than the traditional Amar'e injury, and some maintenance rest for Shumpert, things seem to be going smoothly.    This is a far cry from what it was like just a few years ago.  Just pro's going about their business.   The club picked up Woodson't `14-`15 option the other day, thus taking away any lame duck leverage the players or press could put on him.  Of course, if he doesn't get the job done, Dolan will think nothing of firing him and paying the extra year.

So what is the job this year?   The Knick are now a deep veteran team, with some youth at the 2 with Shump and Hardaway Jr. behind JR Smith.    At the point they are 3 deep with Felton, Pablo and Beno.   All three are vets.   The forwards are a little less straightforward with Melo a 3/4, Bargnani a 3/4,  Meta a 3/4, Amar'e out, and KMart a 4/5.  Assuming they're not serious about Bargnani at the 5, and intend to have KMart as Chandler's backup at the C.

They have some other interesting F's and back-up C types in camp.    But the Knicks have a lot of vets. So the job will largely be about finding minutes, and in many cases limiting minutes to get the most out of the deep veteran roster.   It will be a really good thing if Bargnani, Beno and Hardaway can join the 3 parade and make it rain all season on opponents.   It will be a bad thing if they cannot.    It will be a good thing if Chandler and KMart can stay healthy all year, and a bad thing if they cannot.   It will be a good thing if they can play intense D lead by Chandler and Shump all year, and bad, and probably season ending if they don't.   And it will be fairly amazing if they get something out of Amar'e, and a sort of nebulous thing if they don't.    Poor guy seems shot.

Anyway, so far so good and nothing wacky yet this week.
