Yanks Win!

Andy Pettitte was fantastic in the regularly scheduled game tonight, with a somewhat compromised pen, Andy pitched 8 innings of 2 run ball. He may have pitched his best in the 8th when both Gardy and ARod misplayed balls, creating men on first and third on with no outs. Andy then caught a linedrive comebacker for one, and got Joe Mauer to hit into the DP. The game was tied at 2-2 at that point and with 2 out in the top of the 9th, Nick Swisher hit a homer to give the Yanks the 3-2 lead. Mo came in and pitcher a 1-2-3 9th for the save. Just a big win. Also, we hit the ball hard several times, but we just weren't bunching them. I have a feeling the O is about to breakout again. Javy throws tomorrow. Go Yanks!

They can't send Russo down to make room for Granderson.

Pena should go down. He hasn't played at all lately.

Or they can DFA Winn, since it seems unclear whether or not Russo can play SS.

DFA Winn.

Joba is through as a top-tier arm. It's really sad. Hope the Yankees add another starter this offseason.

Joba's 24. Among many others, Mo wasn't even in the bigs at 24.

I just don't see his upper-90s fastball ever returning to form. I mean, we would have by now if it was going to. He needs it in order to be the No. 1 starter we all thought he could be. Now, he's not even good enough to close.

I think Joba can still close or be a #2 starter if he can learn to consistently repeat his mechanics. He's not there yet, but I'm not dismissing the possibility.

The pitcher he looked like he was before the shoulder issue (whatever the f that was) is probably gone.

The shoulder injury was just tendinitis, and the Yankees hit the panic button. Since Phil's said before that there's no structural damage, the decline in velocity has to be mechanical.

Which is why it amazes me that Joba is not in the minors being tweaked. Since the Yankees refuse to admit they messed up his development, I honestly wouldn't hesitate to trade him for Joakim Soria at this point.

I just feel like it will be back. Phil's fastball was gone for a long time and now it's back.

Tendinitis is not one thing. It's a catchall diagnosis. Something changed subsequent to that injury. My opinion differs because Job changed.

Soria would likely cost an awful lot.

Phil only had leg and rib injuries. Joba had a shoulder. It probably takes longer.

But it was just tendinitis, and as you've said before Phil, they've done more scans of the area and found nothing wrong. It's taking too long. I think it's gone. Hope I'm wrong.

Winn should go and Russo should remain up here when Granderson returns.

Can Russo play RF and is he a good fielder to spell Swisher in tight games?

Mike

MRIs don't provide that kind of diagnostic certainty. They can't distinguish between inflammation and a small tear.

Both are called tendinitis.

Part of it is when will he let er rip again. Some of that is getting confidence back. Hughes had to break through a mental barrier to get his best stuff back.

Can we stop pretending that Vazquez is better than Mitre right now, or that Park and Gaudin are better than Melancon, or that Russo should lose his job for Winn.

Cash made a lot of mistakes this offseason. Some were reasonable and understandable, and he gets a pass...as long as he stops pretending that he didn't.

It's time to rectify them.

If not, it's truly on him.

Vazquez to the bullpen, please. At this point, we're not even going to get the two picks for him. What an awful trade to have given up Vizcaino.
