IFA Updates

Now this is getting interesting. Apparently, the Yanks are not conceding Raphael DePaula to the Mariners. As of today, they have not passed, and that means they're still trying to get it done. What's more. Hechevarria has been cleared to sign with an MLB team. The clarification came yesterday and the Yanks were the team that asked the question. So hopefully that will happen. SS is a weakness in the system, and we need to throw players at it just like we've been doing at catcher for the past four years. Another pitcher, Carlos Matias is also highly regarded by the Yanks, and though he is not a size/stature guy, he has touched 99 on the gun since his conversion from SS. Hopefully they can grab all three players. Go Yanks!

I've said before that I think LF stays open long-term so that Jeter can eventually move there. Hopefully this guy isn't the only player they plan to "throw as the position," as you put it.

Hechevarria is a MUST sign.

If they're going to spend as much as the Sox spent on Iglesias (or more), he's better be close to a sure thing.

They think he's a much better hitter than Iglesias.

Brian Cashman didn't comment when asked if the Yankees have started negotiating with Adeinis Hechavarria, the Cuban shortstop who, according to sources, has been cleared by MLB to talk money with teams.

Because MLB hasn't announced Hechavarria has been "unblocked," Cashman declined to address the situation.

The Yankees have scouted Hechavarria extensively, and other organizations believe they are the frontrunner to sign him for close to the $8 million the Red Sox gave fellow Cuban shortstop Jose Iglesias.

The Angels are also interested in Hechavarria.

"We can start the signing process," agent Bart Hernandez said. "We want to get this guy signed and into camp."

Hechevarria got unblocked on Friday or Saturday.
