MLB Free Agency Begins

Midnight has passed and now the Yanks are free to do some shopping. They got a jump on the acquisition season by picking up versatile Nick Swisher for virtually nothing on Thursday. Swisher is versatile because he can play 1b and OF, and allows the Yanks to aggressively market Damon, Matsui and Nady while providing them with insurance should they not land Mark Teixeira. The Yanks are expected to move quickly on CC Sabathia, but I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of their offseason doesn't unfold sort of slowly and deliberately. In fact, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the Yanks make more trades than free agent signings. As it stands tonight, it looks like the Yanks have 37 players on their 40 man roster as FA begins. Let's see what their next move is.
