Yanks Pick Up Swisher for Marquez

The Yanks just picked up Nick Swisher for minor league pitcher Jeff Marquez. Swisher is coming off of an awful year where his OPS+ was 92, but prior to that he was in the 120's and he does hit homers and take walks! Jeff Marquez has good stuff but is not very high on the Yankees' list of pitching prospects. This is very clearly a case of both teams taking a risk on the other team's disappointments. Let's see how it works out. Swisher's lefty power should play well in the new park. Go Yanks!

PS: This trade could include P Kaneako Texeira coming back to the Yanks and another Yankee prospect headed to the White Sox. The devil will remain in the details here.

UPDATE: The Yankees also gave up Wilson Betemit and minor league P Jhonny Nunez to make the deal.

MORE: while a lot of Yankee fans seem to be panicking that this takes the Yanks out of the running for Mark Teixeira, do they also realize that it allows the Yanks to aggressively market Damon, Matsui and Nady?

I think this is a depth move, does not preclude us from the big fish like Tex or Manny

Who knows? I welcome his 100 walks, though.

So do I. I think this is more of Cash getting an insurance policy. One thing we complained about was the bench. If we do get Tex, Swisher is not a bad bat off the bench.

Apparently the other pieces of the deal are Wilson Betemit and minor league pitcher Jhonny Nunez.

No big loss in Betemit imo.

yup, we got the best player in the deal. Now hopefully we can trade some of the Damon, Matsui, Nady group.

I don't think it takes us out of the Tex sweepstakes at all, Damon had been linked to Chicago once, and Matsui to Seattle or San Fran we shall see

Looks like you were right on Dan about Peavy not being close to the Braves, just read an article that stated just that, and also that us and Anaheim are next.

CC/Peavy would be one helluva start to the offseason
