Horror Stars

Vincent Price (1911-1993) Amercica's greatest Horror Icon, Vincent actually went through several phases of popularity in the genre. A great and versatile actor, Price split the 40's between Horrors like The Invisible Man Returns, noirs like Laura, and historical costumers like Brigham Young - Fronteirsman. In the `50's he really hit his horror stride with House of Wax, House on Haunted Hill, The Fly and The Tingler. In the 1960's, American International, aiping Hammer, decided to develop their own Gothic Horrors are Edgar Allen Poe's stories. Vincent was the star they hung them on and he kicked ass! He could play the victime and the villain with equal aplomb. As the decade closed, he even made Scream and Scream Again with Messrs Cushing and Lee. And just as the Poe stories ran out, Price came back as Dr. Phibes! I'm doing my Halloween thing by stars instead of movies this year, because I realize we just don't have beloved, iconic Horror starts like Cushing, Lee and Price anymore. And it's a shame. Happy Haunting!
