Shanny will go 1 year at a time from now on. The details are meaningless since it's one of those over 35 deals.

Exactly. Shanny can get loads of bonuses which do not count vs the cap. I know he is really excited about coming back. He really loves the team, city, and fans.
Shanny's been the chief recruiter for the Rangers.
You are a million percent right on that. That's the one thing I have heard from day one, and still keep on hearing. Delapina said the other day what we here at Fundays know that NYR is now a place where guys want to play, and that Shanny was and is going to do everything he can to get guys to come here. Supposedly he is working on Souray according to my source.. We shall see..
Shanny may have a two year deal, awaiting confirmation. Regardless he is back for sure.
Avery is giving us a bit more difficulty, he make take us to arbitration.

There are rumblings the next signing is Shanahan, although still unconfirmed. I’ve posed the question to a Rangers source and he hasn’t responded, which could be telling in itself.

yes they both did. I say now that Hossa is a goner. Was told we still may settle with Avery prior to going.
Some other irons are in the fire though I cannot get anything concrete from my guy yet.

We're five days into free agency and just about every worthwhile player is off the market.
Well, just about every worthwhile player. Of the players left on the market, the guy that I've been getting the most questions about is defenseman Sheldon Souray.
Last season, in Montreal, Souray's heavy shot made him a force on the power play. He established a record for power-play goals scored by a defenseman in a single season, netting 19 PPGs for the Habs. Souray smashed the old mark, held by Denis Potvin (Islanders, 1974-95) and Adrian Aucoin (Canucks, '98-99).
Most figured that Souray would be long off the market by now. But, for some reason, he remains available for all 30 clubs.
After talking with a couple of sources with some knowledge of the situation, I get the sense that Souray could be headed for New York to join the Rangers. That scenario makes sense for five reasons (that I can think of).
First, the Rangers figure to add another experienced defenseman.
Second, the Rangers don't have a dangerous offensive presence on their blue line.
Third, the Rangers could deal a roster player (Matt Cullen?) and/or offer less money to their own UFA Brendan Shanahan to create the cap space for another major addition.
Fourth, Souray might be waiting to sign with the Rangers to allow them to pursue a deal to create cap space. By waiting, Souray would allow his future team to make a deal with full leverage. If a club knew the Rangers had to make a deal for cap purposes, that club might offer less in return.
Fifth, Rangers GM Glen Sather has a good relationship with Souray's agent, Paul Theofanous.
Will this scenario play out? At this point, Souray's future plans remain a bit of a guessing game. And, as the Oilers found out, there are no certainties until a player signs a contract. Until he does sign his autograph on the dotted line, Souray remains a free agent. And, until then, we'll keep trying to figure out where he's going.
ONE LAST NOTE
It is one thing to overpay for a high-end player, but it's quite another to overpay for a marginal player. I've been amazed at some the contracts that have been agreed to this week. In some cases, teams might be trying to reach the salary cap floor of $34.3M. In other cases, I'm not sure what they're trying to do. Either way, this class of free agents seems to be doing quite well for itself.
Two years ago next month, those who wanted to rush to judgment felt the just-signed CBA was a one-sided document that favored the owners. It's funny how that perception is changing with time, eh?
I think Souray will still end up on the Ranger power play.
I keep hearing that. If there is one thing my source has been firm on is that Souray will be a Ranger. He says everything else you read is speculation. I guess time will tell if he is right or not.

I saw that about Vanek. Before Lundqvist's agent slowed us down, I had heard we might make a run at Vanek.
7 years 50 million plus 4 first round picks is a hefty price.. I like Vanek but is he worth all that? I think Lowe is pissed at the whole Nylander thing and being forced to deal Smyth. Lowe was quoted in the paper as saying don't be surprised if he did something like this.
Lowe was furious.

Probably. But I do think that's why they signed and announced Prucha, first.
Makes the most sense if you ask me. Prucha's deal is totally traceable. I am curious to see what shakes out.

Wow! That would indicate to me that more then one thing is being worked on, and something big is likely to occur. Especially with the arbitration deadline at 5pm.

I believe Hank will be done no questions. I am curios as to the other stuff. The Avery situation could prove interesting.
I'm sure he'll get done, but I don't see how they can sign anyone else till they get Hank squared away.
I agree Hank is priority one once he is done all the other chips will fall into place.
